For me it would be the 999. Styling and heritage are the deciding factors for me between the two.

+1 to the 999. The Buell isn't really in the same category as the Ducati.

The Buell has the Animal engine but the rest of the bike lets that down with vage handling at speed ... the 999 is still rated by most as the best of the Ducatis up till the latest models ... I was impressed with the bike when road one lazy power but still very quick , heavy front end which gave good feed back when pushed hard & the best thing a great looking bike which is very reliable for a Ducati .... Try both you never know which may suit you better .. Enjoy

I'd go for the 999 myself. The Buell has a hell of a motor, but the 99 is a great package...and the noise

    What gave that away?

I just couldn't walk to my garage and see an 1125CR there in the morning, I'd throw up more than a teen super model

So it sounds like the Duc would be more user friendly?

If one of each isnt an option I would pick the 999.

Whats the servicing and parts cost and availability like on both models?

True. I always try to remember that when I'm bouncing off the rev limiter in 6th.

In all honesty I like the 999, never had the chance to push one hard 'cause I've never owned one. From the saddle time I did get: the Ohlins are better than the Buell's rig, and I'd say the whole bike's optomised for somewhere around 60k over the recommended retail speed. Whereas the Buell's sweet spot is from 80 to 120k. Horses for courses, if I spent more time at a track I might trade, until then I'll just grin and twitch the right wrist a tad more.
