I imagine there will be a few appeals to this, it will drag out in some way for quite some time I expect.

thats like saying the pilots of the 911 planes are as guilty of terrorism as the ragheads who took over the planes

Exactly. Just like Bogan said, following that logic the NZ Govt. (as whoever is in power, they are the providers of the road) should be prosecuted for provide a place for people to commit crime.

It does kind of pick on the whole police department and not include the politics, should have thrown in a few government official.

Also amused by the Dom item that it is not over yet DotCom could face new search http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/di...rds-for-Dotcom.
What's left to search, the FBI have it all and wont give it back. Shouldn't it be that the NZ Police might serve warrants on FBI? :-)

The FBI are the winners. They have got what they want and that is the hard drives with all that wonderful data - kindly provided at the Kiwis tax payer expense.

NZ shouldn't be doing any dirtywork for the US simple as that.
We should have told them to fuck off!
Just like Warner Bros, holding us over a barrell with the Ghey Hobbit movie!! We'll take it offshore if you don't give us tax breaks....

Very sad this had to happen at all. I hope .com is man enough to simply not accept any recompense and move on with his life.
2 wrongs don't make a right - and it will only be the NZ tax payer who loses if there is a payout, cops fired etc.
At the end of the day there was a hidden agenda and some people got screwed. All these people can land on their feet comfortably if the whole thing is dropped right now and not pursued any further.

i think a another analogy would be renting out stolen cars, or maybe owning the park and sell caryard and letting stolen cars be sold off it,

the truth is none of those are really the same, and the laws they are trying to get him on are not really up to it either,

their is a big shift, I know if i had spent millions making a movie i would not want people giving it away for free, so i can understand that, but the youtbe generation has changed the market somewhat, and people are not willing to pay $20 at the movies anymore, so what is the answer, do not make the movies in the first place?

i have no idea if Mr Dotcom will go back and face the charges, or fight them as long as he can back here, but its is sort of interesting to watch it all happen,

i think the only true winners, will be the lawyers that he employs,

unfortunately the big corporates have interfered too much in this case, it now looks like the US Government is acting out of a vested interest!
I doubt he will screw NZ for the money, he certainly doesn't need it. But something will have to be sorted either monetary or apology wise if he ends up being released.

    You miss the one and only point that really matters ;

This is our country, our government, and our police force, and it's all being used to bully ordinary citizens for commercial reasons - the goverments' commercial reasons.

If this doesn't stop, there will be revolution. People are completely fucking sick of it and very quickly they are starting to learn the real truth, and ALSO there's no fucking way people are going to "drop this right now and move on".

The police better be well-armed, or well-advised, or both. Now people are angry.

"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
    "Wow, Great advise there DB."

if the people rise up against the machine that is goverment, it will not be on the back of this, but kiwis are not really the revolutionary type, see our history if you disagree,

thier is way bigger problems in NZ, than one fat rich guy trying to avoid facing a trumped up charge in the USA,

You appear to be letting your anti-government crusade get the better of you, the reality in this case is far worse - they aren't even bullying on behalf of our government, they're bullying on behalf of the US government, who are in turn just a sock-puppet for big media companies who'd rather spend their time extorting and suing their entire customer base than actually evolve their business model and delivery systems to a point where they work in the modern world.

Wrong about it being the governments' commercial reasons. It is overseas businesses commercial reasons. People are slowly waking up to this and realising it is also a pointer how NZ's economy is not being run for the benefit of resident kiwis. They are also realising that it has nothing to do with the original purpose of copywrite and does nothing for the artists, just gives the corporates an a legalised protection racket.
