Where to ride around Auckland and Waikato?

I am riding a KlX 140 and want to find some where to ride that is mud or hard rock. I have been to wood hill and Kimmys and was wondering what thunder-cross b track was like and dome valley. i am fairly new to riding and need some thing that is ant to extreme but not to boring.

thundercross is getting pretty wet this time of year, they close july august (or is it august september??) as part of their concent,

Dome valley is pretty dam wet this time of year, except for the organised rides its pretty hard to go past the sandpit for a ride this time of year,

give it a few more months and when spring somes thundercross will be awesome, NIck is putting a bit of work in their from what I have been told, although i have not been their in a while i have heard good things form people that have,

As Scott said, Dome Valley is pretty wet and it's clay-based, so will be pretty tricky in some sections. It's great in the dry though, so definitely put it on the must ride list when the weather improves.

Thundercross is now closed, opens again in Sept. Nik has done a lot of development work, including the big scary SX/MX track. I wouldn't go near it (too old to hit those big jumps) and I wasn't alone, so he'll be adding a mid-level MX track and some easier jumps on the A/B enduro loops during the off season. Like Dome, it's a must ride in good weather, especially with all the development Nik's putting in.

As Scott also said, you're really not going to beat Woodhill this time of year, either the Sandpit or one of the other Endless rides. I was out on Sat and it was perfect, one of the best days I've had out there.

If you want somewhere with "Hard rock" stuff, there is a huge track in the maratoto valley, called Wires track, just ten or so minutes north of Paeroa, it woundn't be too much of a mess this time of year because its shut off to four wheel drives during winter, it might be abit of a hike from Auckland but its a full days ride and totally worth it

You trying to kill him? If he's new to riding that wouldn't be the best place to discover your limitations.

Like Scott and Jay have said, Woodhill is the best place when it's this wet, I've been riding there for years and still find new tracks and challenges in there, also look on the Silver Bullet web site for organised rides, there's lots to chose from.

If your at Woodhill this sunday look out for the white and orange "well used" KTM 200 with a wobbly old git on it, that's me!

i would not reccomend going near the Wires on a KLX140 at this time of year, esp after the rain we have had this week, like thundercross, it will be better when it drys a bit, but you need to be carefull of other users in there,
