    Car or bike?

Sold the Hyo so I have just over 4k but realistically I'll need a loan if I was to get a 600cc bike, I want one around the 10k mark, a few years old so pretty new looking.

    Is this a smart option?

I'm debating with myself weather I should just get a decent kinda car but that means I'll have no money for a bike. Could get a piece of shit car which takes up probably half of my money. I dunno
    *sigh* decisions decisions

just get a loan and buy a 600. i was in same position as you as ive just bought a 600 after i sold my car, i borrowed 4k from my olds but atleast now that ive got a bike i can payback my loan by end of year were as iam a really bad saver and if i was to buy a shit box i would just endup spending the rest. but thats just me, you may be good at saving just my 2c.

i get my bike delivered today too, shud be here in couple of hours its coming from chch.

also i find prices for bikes are not as expensive as its now winter.

Forget the car - it will be a money pit that keeps you poor

Get a bike - but make it one you can afford - try to find a cheaper one you like - avoid borrowing if you can, but...

    Just my nzd$0.02

i ended up with 05 zx6r, nah i sold my 250 about a year ago but i just sold my ute to buy the bike. I was originally planing to spend about 9-10k on a 600 but i found one for about 7k mark that had done a little bit more ks then others but has been really well maintained and looked after. i also plan on doing afew track days to build my confidence on the bike so i though im better off spending 7k then 10k as im sure somepoint in my life i will probly drop it seeing its my first big bike aswel, that way i wont be as gutted as if i was to drop my really shiny and expensive bike.

If you keen for a ride sometime let me know!!

keeping in mind this is a noobs advice.

There are plenty of good bikes out there for $4k. Unless you're more interested in posing than riding that is...

As well I had the Hyosung for two years it was my only form of transport, I took it out in stupidly windy conditions, pooring rain so if thats not riding then I don't know what is.

    DO NOT
I will say this once more
    DO NOT
Get a loan, you will quickly realise it was a poor choice, you will be happy with the fact you have the bike you want etc, but at the end of the day you have to pay up week in and week out, the amount you loaned plus the interest.

Just save up or get something within your price range.

And fuck the car, buy one, then burn it.

One of my mates had a young girl working for him that bought a car on her credit card!! $20,000 for a shitty Honda Civic with a body kit (total value probably about $7000). The interest alone at 22.95% was mind-boggling. How she managed to get such a high limit on her card was criminal. How stupid she was to buy a retarded car this should also be criminal

Agree...DO NOT BORROW! Unless you're on a high wage (in which case I would guess you would have more $$ saved). Buy something within your means, if you have to borrow..make sure it is an amount that you can pay off in a few months maximum. Financial advice over...

choosing an a bike vs a car will depend on your situation. I personally tried to do only bikes for a while and found it ruined my enjoyment of riding as I had to be smartly dressed for work and business meetings, had to carry around lots of paperwork, a laptop etc all of which was made more difficult on wet days. So...I put the GSXR back in the garage and bought a car as well. (Still used the bike on days I didn't have to worry about meeting clients etc.) Relying on a bike for transport also makes track days all the more frustrating as if you stack the bike, you're up shit creek.
When I was a student, I had my ZXR250 but to keep things cheap, I bought a little Daihatsu Mira for $750 which got me around on the days I couldn't use the bike. (I had a $20k car too...but that is another story, I didn't want to use it for fear of its running costs!)
If I had a $4k budget for a vehicle, I would stay on a DECENT 250cc (like a CBR250rr or a ZXR250 - buy one that is a good runner but a bit cosmetically rough) and a cheap to run car. People underestimate how much fun those 250's can be! You don't need a 600cc or a 1000cc to have a whole lotta fun. In fact, I think I had as much fun on y 250cc as I have on 600's and 1000's.
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.
It takes a big man to cry...and an even bigger man to laugh at that man.
