    Motard wheels that will fit DT200R

    G'day gents.

    I have my ol' DT sitting in the shed, and lets be frank. She ain't the best at high speed handling on the road. She makes it alright, but all my buddies (all of which own sports-bikes) seem to have an unfair advantage at speeds greater that 90km/h, Mainly in the corners (and hills, wind and comfort). But it's the corners that really get on my nerves. The amount of effort to get it around tight corners is pretty annoying.

    So what I have conjured up, is that a pair of 17" road wheels will do me some good. I can't really fork out the $900 to get a proper CNC cut set of wheels, so I was wondering if there's any road bikes around with wheels that are a pretty much strait conversion to the DT. I ain't after any super fancy carbon-fibre titanium-ass bearing wheels that can handle speeds of >9000, just any generic 17's will do.

    Dunno if these specs will help, but whatever.

    1988 DT200R
    90 90 21 front
    160 80 18 rear

    Anywho, any help will be appreciated.

    I think that might be your problem. I can't help recommending wheels even though I'm going to be on a similar mish for my DT 230 at some point. I can comfortably scrape my boots on my bike with dual purpose tires, any further than that I have to ride it dirt style to stop the front pushing. Best of luck.

    Wait up... Pretty sure I got my rear tyre size wrong. Silly me.

    Edit: Yeah, I sure did get it wrong. I actually have a 4.60 18. Derp.

    You didn't take offence. Good.

    TBH I think your DT will struggle a bit above 90 kmh, certainly performance wise. Dropping the yokes by a few mm will speed up turning. My DT has them dropped about 10mm for my G/F who is a little challenged in the inside leg department.
    My Dad has Pirelli Scorpions on his CRM 250, possibly A/T's or maybe even Trail which is more road orientated again, you would have to check, not a lot gets away from it in the twisties up to 100kmh & that's on standard rims.
    On my favourite bit of local swervery it's a struggle to get too much over the limit on my big bike, I can't really say here but the DT is not happy at that speed....., neverthless, the DT is the fastest thing I have ridden down that road.

    The 4.60 equates to a 4.00 tyre size so the closed match in road would be a 110/120 a sport demon springs to mind, if you're going to use the DT mainly on the road have you considered changing the front rim to a 19 so you can fit a road tyre in 90/100. that would be the most cost effective way of doing the motard route.

    Yeah, I have considered getting a 19 for the front. Only trouble is, they're bloody hard to find for the DT.

    I meant you to get a 19 inch rim [blank drilled to fit your spoke pattern] laced up to your hub.

    Just had a look on Yamaha's web the TTR125lw and YZ85lw both have 19 inch fronts, you'll need to check the axles for a match.
