    Parking hassles

OK-1 month ago i got a $65 parking ticket for stashing my bike in the tournament building off Durham St West (desperate and late for work i parked next to the ticketing machine)...no yellow lines, no signs up saying NO PARKING, wasn't obstructing anything and wasn't instructed by building staff not to do so, was clear space and have parked in there othertimes-no problem-well HELLO? Have challenged the breach notice, but don't hold out much hope-thems the breaks and $hit happens, learn from it...Next moan, my first choice parking place-the usual up until this morning was Wilsons parking (exits to High St)..well it won't be anymore, arrived this morning to find they'd yellow lined all the clear spaces where bikers used to be able to legitimately park. WTF? The designated building bike space, which is fook all, is usually taken up by scooters who can't park for $hit. So where pray tell does one reliant on a motorcycle as their primary mode of transport, park their bike? Can't do pay and display cos only a fool would...seems short sighted on the part of parking premises (like they give a fook) and the Council. Looks like my only options public transport, which at the moment is an exercise in time wastage, tedium and cash leakage.

I bicycle in.. easier to park :P
But failing that in the garage at work (upper queen st).

There are some parks up by the library? I thought the council had a page which showed where all the bike parking was,,

I had it though.. tournament gave me a ticket for "not displaying a ticket" on my bike.. how in the hell do I display it? Its not worth the hassle..

go to wilsons building and use a car park. You pay for the park, regardless of whether you are in a Fiat Bambina, or a Giant V10 Ford van.

    eek Doh!

Thanks for the input-talkabout hassles...today i used one of the Councils free parks think it was Elliot St, might've been Fort St (was too annoyed to take much notice), but they were 180 mins max and only enough room for 6 or so bikes. You would think Council would do more to encourage bikes in the CBD given the convenience, efficiency, lower emissions and ease of transit on motorbikes. But no. ANYhow, appreciate the time, suggestions and affordance of rant. Bald Eagle, you read my mind. I'll suck it up but whine like buggery.

Buy a scooter. You could leave the scooter at my place, ride to my place, store your HD in my garage, take the scooter into town and do the reverse at the end of the day...

    Less worry about vandals too!

Don't trust Tournament... been a thread here already about it... even Wilsons is better...

Oh, and they most certainly do care about people parking in their buildings and not paying.

My brother a lawyer he told me that tounament wont take breach notice to court as if they lost its sets a precedent. They can't send a disputed debt to baycorp its agains the law so he told me to write back and dispute it.

Tounamwnt tryed three times then gave up.

I also changed registration to false details as nzta shouldnt have sold tournament my address so now they get bullshit lol saves on speed cam tickets too.

Haven't you noticed? the Auckland council is blatantly anti motorcycle. The aforementioned motorcycle parks (which were always full) next to the Auckland library were removed late last year/early this year for making Lorne street with its ugly as fuck buildings, pretty...
One of the lads working on the road warned me off trying to park anywhere near the library as he'd been watching the council parking wardens stinging anyone who parked there with a good $200 fine A GC that bloke. I now park up on St Pauls street whenever I'm in town during the day and at the civic on weekends.
It wasn't me officer, I swear!

Apparently you must be notified that you can't park in a certain place before you can be ticketed (yellow lines, no parking signs, verbal/written warning etc), at least that is what I was told re parking anywhere in Massey Palmy. So you might have grounds to get off the ticket, this time.

You make me feel glad to be working where I am. On a good day I've counted 11 bikes in the car park under our builing. Regularly get more than half a dozen. Even in the depths of winter.

Thanks Tig, noted winston, Gremlin-yeah i got that tourny will do anything for a buck, filthy mingaz.., matdaymon-i've seen those wardens patrolling the library precinct like vultures and agree about the compromised aesthetics of the surrounding buildings. This morning i collected the mail before heading out for a jaunt and bingo, got another letter notifying me that because i haven't paid the breach notice courtesy of Tourny, they've slapped a non payment fee on there so now the fees $90-except that i've followed the process and am contesting the original breach notice..?? Got the paperwork through to them ontime, spoke to a disembodied voice day who said yep time stopped on the clock til they assessed the merits of my dispute claim so not to worry bout further fine...mmm aint that naieve of me..swbarnett-sounds like ur work place is on to it and not neurologically impaired like Auckland Councils planners appear to be. Marmoot i'll checkit out, but i was whinging about the lack of/disappearance of, bike friendly free parks round the city and or close to my place of work..my rides a beacon for public defilement, which i loathe with a livid passion.
