I got a new MT21 on today.... I'm not sure what worn tyres are like in the snow (she says, ever hopeful)

In two minds whether to put the new MT21 on the front for this ride or leave the E07 on? The E07 would still pass a wof but is way past its best (which wasn't that great to begin with), is anyone else riding with an oldish front tire?

NOTHING!! I havn't done this ride before so not sure how slippery the terrain is going to be. If the gravel bits are anything like the roads in southern HB you could ride them with slicks at the moment, hard packed with very little loose stuff. The scottsman in me says eek some more miles out of the E07 and save the mt21, but if theres going to be any mudd, grass or clay bits I will put on the newby.

One day ride not that hard Marty. You will be fine. Just a bit taxing on the butt by the end. Ride through the forest is pretty fast, open & not demanding. Around the Lake can be cold & the amount of gravel varies according to the last time it was graded or resurfaced. I'm riding again this year with the same free , throw away 2nd hand knob tyre from the Honda Shop & a well used Adv tyre on the rear & not worried at all.
Two years ago (as mentioned earlier on this thread) . . . it's the ice we struck on the Nap/Taupo that you have to be most careful of.
My mate & I had a bit of fun at Te Haroto (once off our bikes) skating on the edge of the road in our MX boots. Then I road the last 20ks to Rangitaiki with my googles off as they had frozen up in the inside through the fog LOL. A very slow 20ks, as we couldn't see a thing!

There is now a bed available at the Rangitikei Pub & one at the Matawai Pub. Matawai is not answering the phone but will be cancelled as soon as they ring back
Work is not panning out as I hoped so I will be a no show.

Sorry for the stuff around Clint & thanks for your heads up.
Don't forget your earmuffs tomorrow, should be the last day if the bloody breaker does not shit itself again.

Tested my heated vest last night, works like a beauty, had to turn it to the lowest setting.
I fear the cold no more.

    Thanks nightfalcon.

You made me question what map was showing on the unit, and it seems that the updated one isn't going onto the GPS unit from Mapsource. Not sure why.

Have spent hours on it. So fed up with the GPS now, I'm going to revert back to good old fashion paper maps.

Got my new conti front on now.

No worries Trustme I haven't confirmed a bed at Matawhai yet and they were going to sort something out for me at the Rangatik. So I'd be happy to take up the slack.

Probably tag along for the Saturday round the block Napier to Napier group. Used to regularly drive SH5 in linehaul truck so I'll be the canary for the spotting the icy spots (famous last words). Metvuew site looks like changable weather and approaching front so hopefully they'll be enough wind to ward off the ice. Works has been good with that new grit and acetate deicing compound during last few years that ice risk has been reduced greatly.
The coldest part is always the plains along lochinvar straight to the start of the waipungas, often saw minus seven through there on the trucks external temp gauge.
Did run through SH38 at end of may, most of gravel was packed down hard like concrete so prob had a good grade since then.
