Where do you go, and why? Not Orklind. Probably not Welly.
Mount Maunganui. Sun,Surf, Fishing, Tauranga close by for when a taste of city life is required and has a big enough population to absorb your 'transferable skills'. Or down by Waihi beach if more solitude is required, but still handy to the Tauranga population base for work.

Interesting thread...yep read it all. I was in CHCH for a week or so recently, had a month there last winter. Canterbury still has a huge pull I'd love to live there despite everything. Someone commented about there being no sign of quake west of CHCH...HAH not around my old stamping ground past Darfield.

    It's full

    But seriously now...
I have lived in Gizzy, Dunners, Wellington, and Aucks. But TGA is one of the best places IMHO. So central, stable-ish weather, surrounded by awesome roads, and of course more awesomer people live here!!

Can't run away from earthquakes anywhere in NZ ... probably anywhere on earth for that matter! ... Do they have moonquakes on the moon? Probably!

Large chunks of space rock crashing into the surface must cause the moon to shake a bit.

no, its too small to have a liquid centre, and thus tectonic plates and therefore earthquakes. It also does not rotate.

The lack of atmosphere (and the protection from cosmic radiation offered by the atmosphere) do pose something of an isue: from both meteorite and asteroid strike and cosmic ray perspective.

Now I have to go look up what the difference is between a meteor, a meteorite, and an asteroid. And why there is no such thing as an asteroidite. Also about the van Allen belts

Still one for central HB...Waipukurau would be the place...if we were to sell here, and move out of the area, Waipuk would be considered.
We could buy a bloody nice house there even if we got RV for our house here....$375K gets you a 3 bed/2 bathroom newish house.
We like the smaller towns...they somehow offer so much more than a city does...if you know what I mean.
Big plus is...the roads around that area.
