Fuel economy for a GN125?

You need to keep an accurate record of the fuel used, the fuel type, the distance between each fill up, and the type of riding before you can be sure of your fuel consumption.

I find my bike is much better on 91 than 95 octane, and it goes further on Z or Caltex than any other brands.

Different sorts of riding affects the fuel use.

Around town ... up and down through the gears, using higher rev's in the lower gears.
On the motorway into a headwind with the throttle wide open.
Racing through the gears when there's no need.
Riding with the choke on longer than you need.

Go everywhere with a tailwind and you'll be fine ...

Given my bike is 12 times the capacity and weighs 4 times as much, I do 6.5 to 7.5 l/100km on the open road.

However we use almost exactly the same amount of power to pull both through the air at 100 kph so 4-5 seems about right.

Are you comparing how many L of petrol you put in to how many km on the trip meter?
My GN250 was using 3.7L/100km on average, most riding at 90-100km/h.
In comparison the 600 uses 5.5L/100km

Jeeeebus mate, that's some epic economy! I was proud as punch of the GN managing that, considering my 2004 model I had used closer to 5L/100km
Go figure, the current one had super rooted piston/barrel/rings/camchain and went just as well, if not better than the 2004, which was 11 months old when I got it with 1500km on it

I can rely on 285 km's from a 23 litre tank. If I behave ... I managed 300 km's once.

I regularly get more than 300 km from a 19 litre tank on a trip, but only 250 km when commuting. But I do have 55 cc more than you.

I’m thinking that there may be something wrong with ze bike.
I’m getting quite low KMs per tank - about 200ish for 10 litre tank? From what I read online this is pretty damn low for a GN125. Or is this normal?

It's not broken. It's just because you're having to sit on a wide-open throttle to keep up with traffic.

All other things being equal, little motors with wide-open throttles tend to use more fuel than bigger motors making the same power at a crack off idle.

I'm sure there's a scientific explanation for that, but I don't know what it is. It's just something I've observed. My Scorpio 225 gets the same fuel economy as my 1200 Sportster (20km/L) if I thrash the former and baby the latter.

5l per 100km.. im guessing in town commuting? pretty good..

I'll ask the mrs what she gets on her gn250 round town when she gets out of the indoor rain center

edit: on motorway, prob even better lol.. the 250 struggles on the open rd i imagine the 125 is pretty gutless... it'll drink the gas trying to get to 100 and stay there.

And I thought my GSXR600 SRAD was bad. 8L/100kmh with open road riding, and 9L/100km around town. Doesn't seem to make much difference how I ride it either.

how big is a blades tank? I'm guessing 17 litres or 18 litres incl reserve bit. and I can clock 350-380km on the open rd.. whats that.. almost 5l per 100?

I'v had better gas mileage in turbo cars than 9l per 100 haha

My 1670 is 5.5L per 100 two up towing a trailer or 4.5L one up. Its not doing alot more than idle though.

It will be interesting to see what the fuel economy is like on your RS250.
