Thumbs up Yamaha RD350/400 LAMS approved?

    See this link: http://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/bike...ew-riding-regs

"The new Lams regs will specifically exclude 250cc two-stroke sportsbikes such as the Honda NSR250, Suzuki RG250, Aprilia RS250, Kawasaki KR250, and Yamaha TZR250, which are all 120kg bikes capable of making 45kW (60bhp). However, bikes such as the Honda VFR400R, with a rev-happy 400cc V4 engine stuffed into a similarly sporty alloy twin-spar frame to that of the NSR represent some of the sportiest choices from the list.

If you have penchant for classic bikes, original Triumph, Norton and BSA parallel twins can be ridden on a learner licence.

Have to have a two-stroke roadbike? An air-cooled Yamaha RD350 or RD400 twin is the only alternative, if you can find one."

Potential LAMS rider: 2 stroke? Power band? Whats that?

Seller: Don't worry about it sonny, its an old bike yer granny woulda ridden, it's a pussy believe me.

If the Ducati is 659 cc ... it is over the 650 cc limit, and therefore ineligible ....

It's been stated clearly ...LAM's bikes must be under 650 cc. Regardless of power to weight ratio.

I learnt to ride on a RD350 so I think they are the perfect L plate bike.

Yeah, there's some odd choices in there for the approval list.

The RD's definitely stand out although as GunnyRob reckons they've all been thrashed to death or in a museum.

Others that are bit iffy include the RVF400 (nice little racer there) and the DogRooters. Grab yourself a DRZ400, whack on some wide bars and slicks and hoon around town tearing it up.

Pick of the bunch would have to be the Wee-Stroms. Great adventure/touring bike that can keep a cracking pace in the twisties.

Nice to see a bunch of "L" and "U" LAMS versions of popular bikes, although not sure if they will filter into the NZ market.

    660cc.

    OP:
The VFR400R is not LAMS legal.

have u guys seen the Ducati Monster 659 Lams ABS?

just for our lams market (and aussie) it looks pretty sharp, a f*ckn cool learner bike! bit jealous of the learners.. sorta.. they miss out on the 2ts muahaha

still expensive tho, i was buying sub 1000 buck bikes for the learner years
