Get the one that fits your head the best.
Also I thought the X-twelve was only for the American market?

The X12 is the US name for the X-Spirit 2, the US equivalent to the XR1100 is the RF1100. BIG price difference.
I've got both a Shoei X-Spirit 2 (X12) and a HJC RPHA-10. These are my opinions on them, no doubt some will disagree but that's the beauty of an opinion - it's neither right nor wrong.
The X-spirit was NZ bought. A very well built helmet and a lovely place to put my head but it just doesn't 'feel' right and I think it's uncomfortably noisy even with ear plugs in. It used to be said in the UK that you were either a Shoei shaped head or an Arai one. I was a Shoei head for 16 years and they were a beautiful fit but changes to the helmet shape over the last couple of model revisions now means no Shoei fits me well. Possibly a thing to bear in mind if you are thinking of comparisons with your XR800.
The HJC was bought in the UK - I was back there visiting relatives and picked it up for £154 inc VAT & delivery or less than $300 for a helmet that goes for $800 here (To balance things, the Shoei was cheaper here than I could find it in the UK). To replace a helmet - the X-Spirit 2 - I was disappointed in it was a no-brainer.
The HJC is very light but a lot of that is due to the Large Shoei is size 59-60 whereas the Large HJC is 58-59, put them side by side and the Shoei is noticeably larger. Comparatively the HJC-'Feels' flimsy, presumably due to the construction to make it that light - the fit of the lining in the helmet is not as good, the shell flexes more. I have no doubt that the Shoei will last at least five years (my X-Spirit 1 lasted 8) but have serious doubts if the HJC will last that long.
The big thing for me was that the HJC gave me the same snug fit feeling that all my old Shoeis did but the X-Spirit 2 doesn't - It cradles my whole head whereas the X-Spirit 2 doesn't, that feels lose at the sides. I don't have the noise problem I have with the Shoei which was a big distraction, and overall I 'feel safer' wearing the HJC.
As always the fit is the important thing. Buy the best fitting helmet for your head and ignore anyone who says that you should buy brand X or brand Y because it's the "best". Their opinion only and it's not their opinion going inside your helmet.
A couple of other things.
The SHARP testing system in the UK gives the Shoei 5 stars but the HJC only 3.

As far as I'm aware, Shoeis sold in NZ are designed for the European Market.
Legality of UK/US bought helmets, a question I asked earlier:

What he said. There are about 3 shapes in the big name helmets, USA, Europe and Asia, based on the different head shape.
Basically, you got to try them out to see what actually fits (and if you then know which head shape it is). Doesn't really matter about features if they are uncomfortable.

+1 for Shark RSI or even RSX if you can still find one. Reasonably priced and good helmets
I've spent my money on bikes, booze and babes. The rest I've wasted....
My race helmet is RSI but the fit is ok all but the chin area clearance which puts me off getting one for the road.
Ill go try the HJC on for size and see.

this is the correct price
Yes. ill call in and see if they have the one I want in stock.
They show the rrp on their site and supply all the local shops.
Idd say most of the places I shop at will give me a small discount also.
The one that a previous post links to is not the same model helmet also.
The more I think about it with fit and warrenty the more I would restrict my purchase to fit before buy local on this item.
