    Didn't end well.
Sounds basically like everyone who tried the first DB

Umm we knew exactly what we were doing - first run was jusr a social ride dressed up as a endurance ride. Yep it was abit of a miserable fail!

You sound like your getting soft or is it old TA? Rember folks its both mental and physical prep that you need. 10-15 hours riding per day even just for the 2 day run needs good mental stamina.

    Cheers R

Tyre still up - speedo now fixed - took the wheel off turns out the plate thingy with the lug thingys on it, that attaches to the screw thingy, that go into the slot thingys on the wheel had bent so I used a bit of precision engineering (read smacked it with a mallet on top of a piece of firewood) to straighten said piece - put it all back together and success!

Only two things annoyed me; I didn't take the opportunity to put new tyre on and I couldn't use a cable tie or duct tape in the operation (which I like to do whenever I operate on the old girl)

    Takamatua Challenge!

Just back from a 300km trip exploring the various roads / tracks on the Northern Eastern Banks Peninsula. I have found a beauty! The old Le Bons Bay Track from Takamatua up onto the Summit Road.

3 km of extreme 4WD track: steep, rutted, slippery and covered in large volcanic rocks. Wouldn't try it on anything bigger / heavier than a 650. Was glad to get to the top as didn't fancy a downhill version....

Tis a great track, been a while since I've done it, bit of it is in the last minute of one of my youtube vids. I did prefer going down but if it's muddy at the moment I don't know.
Very keen to get back there on the WR but was hoping to have my gearing and tyres better sorted first.

The Robsons Bay one is fun too, done that on the Transalp. That one is grassy with a couple of steep bits. No rocks that I remember on the Robsons Bay one.

Was going to go down that, but it looked like a disused farm track, and wasn't sure if it went all the way to the bottom! The old Le Bons track would be perfect for the WR, need right Tyres and gearing! I was sweating like the proverbial by the time I got to the top! Rocks the size of rugby balls!

Go riding non stop till you almost out of gas (planned to occur at gge), take no more than 15 mins stop then ride home again.

Slightly more seriously - when you do go out for a ride like Pig Saddle etc, just get rid of all the social stops, or if you do stop, 2 min max. Learn to keep the brain in gear for 3-4 hours at a time. Doesn't have to be top gear. Tortise and hare type thing. Just need to keep moving.

Basically on a normal outing we stop often cause the social side of it is what makes it enjoyable. You don't have that much time to stop on a DB1k.
