To change to either 3.5mm rollers or a plain big end will require some commitment however.
It can be done and I suppose it will eventually have to be done.
Perhaps you can answer this for me Greg, If someone was to change from roller big end to plain metal bearings would the oil pressure then not have to be altered, I always thought white metal bearings where more sensitive to correct oil pressure, and while most people realise what too much will do on rollers, I was under the impression that plain metal required less pressure again than rollers.
    Am I correct in this?

    Still asking leading questions eh....

Yes, as Irving put it, there's an optimum amount of oil for a roller bearing, which cannot be directly related to pressure. Most roller systems run at around 2 - 5 psi but quite good volumes.
Plain bearings require much higher pressure and volume. Any plain bearing conversion would require some serious looking at oil pump rotor widths as a start. A better (more positive) feed into the crank may also be needed. It's possible and not that hard.
Having said that, British twins have survived for years on around 40psi and dodgy feed arrangements...

There's at least one rod out there with a 30mm pin and 3.5mm rollers though - just a lighter roller bearing would probably lengthen big end life significantly. But I suppose given the choice between longer big end life or the possibility of revving it harder, most would use more revs and accept a component life similar to current use.

If people do what they say they will there'll only be a KTM in my shed by the end of the week and I don't think an FXR engine will be much help it that blows
Sometimes you wish it was easier, but if it was, everyone else would do it, then you remember you don't want to be like everybody else!
