Buckets at Cemetery Circuit?

I had a run in with a teacher at high school the week before that one and ended up grounded hahaha...

Oh yeah. Left a chunk of my left knee at Ohakune and got a ride in the ambo to Wanganui. Some other bloke got involved as well and still has a little whing about it now and again. Jimmy came 2nd in the GP on my bike later in the day.

So; what we have gained from this thread is that:

1. some of us remember that buckets did use to race at Wanganui; and have not embarrassed themselves.
2. in the past we have had some great street races in little villages around the country; that have left some lasting memories
3. That the public getting the opportunity to see small bikes might be a good thing...
(I know that's how i got started; after aforementioned foodtown carpark meeting 1994ish).

So maybe a few of us should try and kick something off again???
Foxton to me still seems like a easy one; given that most of it was reserve (and still is)...

l remember jimmys big end going and then doing a rebuild of the engine on the side of the track . that crash of yours was nasty

You're going to have to go through an MNZ club but if you've an idea for a circuit, ask Billy who to get along for a preliminary look.
If it passes the preliminary feasibility look-see then you get the local council on side. Then probably local Lions or Rotary...it can be a real money maker for a small township.
It's a shitload of work but there's always room for another good street circuit.

...playing in the top five for positions in pre 72 at Methven is cool, but trying to catch up with 16th there on a Bucket is my idea of absolute fun...like YL said once before...'best bucket track in the country'...

The other chap came in the F5 class in 2nd so he can't have been too hurt, probably just bleating. Was a good looking chap though.

No chance Foxton, have you seen the shopping crowds on mainstreet there now they put that poxy fake windmill in? Main organiser at Ohakune moved away, but town deserted in summer so they may go for it again.

Fielding street circuit was good fun all those off camber corners & shop front windows, had a couple of races there after the World Superbikes were at Manfield, Wellington waterfront in the wet very slippery - did get told off when re-entering the track haha
Palmerston Nth gardens was fun too
Wanganui the buckets were not that much slower than the mid pack F3 - probably upset too many who's ego was greater than their riding ability, hence they are not there anymore

l do remember morly going through the feild very fast . he just needed a faster bike

Someone told me the commentators said something about Morley being the first of the buckets etc etc yada yada but there was another bucket 6 or so places ahead they hadn't noticed. Same as every other year - not noticed, except by the guys having trouble getting past it.

I had a nasty spill there too (with a lot of help from D.Dip). Lucky to walk away with just bruises.

Cant one enter F3 without declaring the bike as a Bucket? These days quite a few Buckets look more business like than a lot of 'proper' race bikes and are punted by riders way more capable than some of the big bike homos too.

The last time I entered, ages ago, Barbara rejected my entry. No reason given, organisers don't have to, but through the grape vine I found it was because I would be too slow and get in the way. Yak Knight managed to talk her around for me. Practiced with the F3 guys and was nowhere near the slowest bike out there but somehow ended up on the back row of the grid. It's getting a bit vague now but I got somewhere like 14th in the first race and ended up on the back of the grid again. No amount of talking was going to change it, I tried. 2nd race a few of the other riders must have taken brave pills and I only got 17th or so. Being light and nimble there was no need to slow through the esses and in fact I was changing into top just as I peeled into the right and the front lofted over the camber mid corner as I changed direction.
I haven't been bothered to go back. If other bucket racers were going to show up I'd be very tempted to enter again.

It is a cool track on a bucket.

You can really stick it to the bigger bikes in certain places like over the railway lines, into the esses, and at flower garden. The esses were a real favourite. The slower guys would back off as they tipped in and if you were close enough you could fire it up the inside as they turned then flip it over to the left and wheely over the camber. I was told a couple of times how unamused other riders were. F3 was good, clubmans was horrifying. Lining up next to guys on GSXRs was spooky. You'd be smoked getting to the first corner and sneak past half of them going round it then smoked again etc etc.
