Gotta keep the K2 bro. A nice one of them is worth the same coin as a K5/6 still.

But the K5/6 is the stupidest/most fun of the bunch.

Go find a 2005/2006 Suzuki GSXR1000, and take it for a ride. There is simply not a sports bike out there to date, that delivers that much power in such an exhilarating manner.

    Have fun.

There's a reason the RF is stepped out like that, ride one and it'll all become apparent.

It's an S83/V1400 which seems to have an indicated top speed of 105 mph - or 169 kph .. that's pretty close to what a GSXR1000 will do in first ..

Thanks guys. OP here. I'm genuinely interested and not just trying to kick off a sport bike thread. I started on a 250 Aquilla, went up to a 750 Honda Shadow ACE and then to my S83. I've been riding for around 18 months and have gone through my licencing stages in the shortest possible time due to my age. I'm 6ft and 100kgs and cruisers were just a comfortable fit. Now I'm a bit more experienced on a bike I'm thinking about either getting a sportbike as well as my S83 or moving to sportbikes next. I'm not a hoon (passed the urge to do stoppies or wheelies long ago) and just want some genuine advice on what to take for a test ride that won't scare the shit out of me and put me off. Thanks all.

Look man, we're gonna give you shit even if your real identity turns out to be Jorge Lorenzo.

Ok, at 6ft and being about average size, a thou is gonna "fit" best to sit on. If you have a brain and are sensible about it, (nothing personal, but it would be unusual if you are), you will be fine having a ride on one, or even owning one.

Carbureted R1's are good bikes, solid all round power, and nice bike to ride.

Injected R1's pre crossplane, is the roomiest, but be warned it's one of the better bikes for everywhere mental power.

Crossplane R1. I bloody hate the motor on these. People swear by the crossplane, I'm sure they are just sold on the hype. The power delivery is snappy and twitchy with the bike in A mode. Never saw the point in the other modes, but might be better. Bike feels OK to ride otherwise.

ZX10's. Too many variants to list. Generally, small and mental.

Gixxer K1/2. Smooth, fast, neutral position, borderline touring bike, if they weren't so fuckin fast and handle so well.

Gixxer K3/4. Slightly more aggressive than the model before, less neutral ride, better brakes. I couldn't fault the brakes on the K2, so I don't see why they needed upgraded.

Gixxer K5/6 is as we've said, the absolute mentalist, stupidist, deadliest, BESTEST bike ever made. Know your shit before ya give one of these a hoon if you wanna go fast.

Gixxer K7/8 is more refined than the K6. It's faster but doesn't feel like it.

No experience beyond that for me.

You want a real thrill, ride an RF900 though. Nothing on the list above compares.

Be fuckin careful man. You have next to no experience at all, nomatter how many k's you've clocked up in a year and a half.

    Enjoy.

And the above is why I mentioned the Triumph 675 etc.
The mental Litre bikes are a hoot but bite hard if you get carried away by their awesome speed!

a crossplane R1. some love them, some are apathetic towards them. I find their power delivery intoxicating, its just . . . different, and i love that. definitely try it for the sake of comparison and something different.

and a 675, a screaming triple, for the same reason, its different.

oh, and a KTM RC8r because they look like an alien spaceship, sound awesome, and a chap I know who has one says they are great!

Why not take a VTR1000 Firestorm, and SV1000S and an RSV1000/Tuono out for a blat? Big twins are fookin' fun, sound good, eat petrol and shouldn't scare you.

Just be very aware of the increased acceleration - everyone warned me and I rode like a nana til I got used to the difference and instant speed.
