Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.
It takes a big man to cry...and an even bigger man to laugh at that man.
I think the camera's that catch the non-rego's are already around or will be coming into force. From a very reliable source, the police are getting more of these camera vans!
Btw somewhere online is a website from the UK showing burnt out speed cameras that's been mounted on posts.People there seem to hate them to burn them haha
I never get tickets on the open road. I sit there in my car at 95km/hr so I can't. Of course, that's a real world (according to my GPS) of 86km/hr. Can't think why I get all this traffic backed up behind me... but I'll never get a speeding ticketYay for no tolerances making the roads safer!
Yeah ay!...WATCH YOUR SPEEDO!!!...NOT THE ROAD NZ!!
And then theres that million dollar speed camera in Nelson<(1 million in fines in one year!)
For the second year in a row this thing is looking like it will churn out another million in fines...all that says is its collecting revenue!...not improving safety! or contributing to lowering the speed of drivers in the area.
The ONLY "safety" measures the police and NZTA are actually capable of implimenting nowdays is lowering the speed limit!...much cheaper and easier to just swap a speed sign, than improve roads or rasing the driver training standards etc (That would require thought and planning...god forbid!)
...and I believe the LAW still states a mechnical allowance of 10%!...well the AA are still arguing this fact...but then again they don't stand to make a profit off it or an easy collar/quota!
Fucking nana state!...big difference between a real "speeder" and going a paltry 5k over!.
Heres a good way of improving road safety...STOP LETTING REPEAT DRINK DRIVERS & DANGEROUS DRIVERS WALK OUT OF COURT WITH JUST A SLAP ON THE WRIST!

Normally ... one might think all the drivers getting caught are rich ... or stupid. But Nelson area being a very popular tourist area .. it is more likely visitors passing through the area (mostly) getting caught.
People ignore big ... BLACK SPOT. SLOW DOWN signs and crash too. Perhaps the signs distract them.
Why don't more people take more care when they drive, speed (apparently) is not the problem ... a quicker (and cheaper) fix don't you think ... ???
And the law also allows the police to use their discretion, as to when an infringement ticket is issued. If the popo on the spot decree's 1 km over gets a ticket ... so be it.
See above re:discretion. But not ALL popo are created equal. Well ... they are really ... but some see more stupid vehicle operators than others. The more they see ... the more they ticket (in ever increasing numbers)
It's a start ... but will have NO effect on the speed limit policies ...

Im not that impressed.
I have evolved as a KB member. Now nothing I say should be taken seriously.

Yup, got no problem with law enforcment or officers discretion etc...but its becoming a joke!
When the tolerances are set so low, the focus has clearly shifted from actual road "safety"...to road "revenue".
All you have to do to prove this...is go for a ride during a public holiday!
Drivers are now so scared of and fixated on there speed, that they are actually distracted!
Sure the stats say the new limits are working...but as someone who relys upon and works with stats all day & everyday, stats must be closely monitored and variables must be changed and applied...this is not the case for the NZTA stats on holiday accidents...they have ignored key main factors such as weather, amount of road users, distances traveled etc
So seeing as the holidays have seen alot of good weather(compared to historical records), much lower road users and less distances traveled, due to the lack of disposable income, the price of petrol and peoples unwillingness to travel during a "4k" weekend...of course the stats will look good (which is why they proudly displayed them to the public)
So if there aim is to remove the common man from the roads through a fear campaign...they have succeeded!...but if there aim was to actually improve road safety...fail!
And as I said, if they focused on removing the repeat offenders off NZ roads, instead of trying to make all of us feel like criminals for small indiscretions...the roads WOULD actually be alot safer!
But no!...we are a cash cow!...the govn't has seen dollar signs and are ignoring the factors such as poor roads, bad lighting, poor driver education and rediculas sentances for repeat offenders, over the cheap n easy options of lower speed limits and rediculas tollerances enforced.
Personally I would happily take a ticket for exceeding the limit by 10k...it shows a lack of restraint and focus...fair enough!
...but 4k or less over a 100k limit?...how can that possibly be seen as dangerous? or warrant a fine? (In a 50k sure!...but the highway?)
The main factor to look at is...everytime a cop that pulls over a 4k "speeder" just means there is one less cop on our roads looking for actual dangerous drivers and ensuring real road safety is monitored and enforced!
You know I fully support the Popo FJ (Ive got the scars to prove it!), but when laws & rules start to contradict each other, speed cameras are consistantly raking in millions of dollars and having no effect on lowering peoples speed, and normal safe drivers with clean records are getting stopped and fined for menial infractions...it just REEKS of revenue over safety!
So I dissagree with spending more and more money on revenue collection tools such as speed cameras (that are proven NOT to effect drivers as much as a real Popo issued ticket), over investing in proper driver training, road maintenance and targeting real offenders and ensuring they are punished accordingly and kept off NZ's roads...THAT is focusing on road safety!, and THAT would benefit all...not just the Govn't's coffers!

yet there is nowhere to legally establish that your speedo is indeed accurate, it used to be that when you got your warrant of fitness the speedo accuracy had to be established to a point until they brought in this 4km/h tolerance shit and it magically got written out of the whole thing!!!!!!
The LAW is still there...your speedo must be accurate to within + or - 10% of indicated speed.
The AA has been arguing fact this since the new Bullshit Tollerances were announced.
And if you try to claim this fact against a ticket, the Popo's responce is that you must get the speedo checked (At a cost of nearly $300!!) to prove that yours is infact reading incorrectly.
A process that the AA has slammed!, as it puts the responcibility on the driver not the manufacturer of the vehical...we should not have to prove this fact as the vehicles are designed within this tollerance, as is cruise control!<(cruise control on most cars has a 4-6kph "drift"...so at a set 100kph, you could actually hit 106kph! and be fined through no fault of your own)
I think the best way to fight this revenue grab is through cost...refuse to accept the issued ticket!, and politely advise the Popo that you want it posted out! (perfectly within your rights to do so)...that way they can enjoy the postage cost the admin required to dispatch it and the general hassel of issuing a bullshit revenue grab ticket....its a perfectly legal way of letting them know you dissagree with YOUR TAXES paying for campaigns that have nothing to do with actual road safety!

crap my last ticket was in a 50km'h zone i watched the cop checked my speedo still got a ticket, went to a speedo tech, got a certificate that it was way out, went to the warrant people who stated 'if they think a speedo is out they'll take it up the motorway with a vechile they ''know'' is right. (bull fucking shit).
my point is the law is that you must have a warrant by a GOVERNMENT APPROVED agent, yet said agent does NOTHING NOW to ensure that you speedo is accurate, yet the GOVERNMENT APPOINTED police will serve you a ticket.
to me that simply smarts of a breach of human rights.
And the easy solution would be??? a few of those speed display units on the 100km/h areas so i can then check my speedos accuracy, where are they? not in the 100 zones. 80 and 50 yes but speedos do vary at differnt speeds
BTW who the fuck charged you $300 my tech was around $50
