Where to go for WOF

Folks,

This is the first time I am taking a bike for WOF in Auckland. Any advice?

I guess I am after the cheapest one that would not tell me that I need to change half of the bike's parts. LoL. It is a 2008 bike and dropped only once (2 years ago). According to ex owner (a friend) it went flying through the previous WOF so it is doing fine I believe.

There are three type of bike owners:
1. The ones who dont give a shit about WOF.
2. The ones who want one only so they are legal on the road.
3. The ones who expect the inspector to tell them if their bike is safe to ride.

If you belong to group 1, you don't give a shit re the replies here.
If you belong to group 2, you already know someone who will give you a WOF even if there is some minor issues with the bike and you do not need this thread.

But if you belong to group 3 it means that there are three possible outcomes from the WOF inspection:
1. The bike passes the WOF inspection as it is road legal and you will happily ride away.
2. The bike fails the WOF inspection and you will get the faults sorted and you come back and get your WOF and you will happily ride away.
3. The bike fails the WOF inspection but you disagree with the inspectors report.

If your bike fits 1 or 2, your life carries on happily.

But if you fit 3, you will take one of the following three options:
1. You will take the bike to other WOF inspectors until one gives the bike a WOF.
2. You will become one of the riders who does not give a shit about WOF.
3. You will come on KB to whinge about the retarded WOF inspector who has no idea.

If you take option 1 or 2 we will not have to read anymore re this and all are happy.

But if you are a category 3, then one of the following 3 will happen:
1. Katman will give you so much crap that you die and we will never hear from you again.
2. The Mods will throw your whinge thread in to PD with the result that you get so offended that you will never return.
3. After all the shit you get from the KB "If your bike is not up to WOF standard every minute you must use the bus" you will see the light and be saved never to ask a question on KB that will show your ignorance again.

I guess I belong to category 2.5 . I must be legal on the road and I do give a shit but my wallet cannot afford pedantic mechanics. I was hoping to get an advice about a place in Auckland where they look at serious stuff without drama

With my various cars over the years, I have learned that the perceptions of "must be fixed" and "high risk" are as large as Aretha Francklin's ass.

I once got WOF failed for the "faded colour of a backseat's belt". I gave up the $25 and moved to another mechanics, and went on to have the car for 3 more yeas without any mention of the seat belt colour..

If ya wanna come to Manukau our wof guy is very reasonable, he rides himself and won't crucify you on stupid shit. But he'll still give it a decent checkover.

Do you know why it failed? Because the fading indicates uv damage. It is correct to fail it. For your passengers safety, You should have replaced it, not gone somewhere else...

As per my message above, I have learned through the years that the definition of safety and risk is very wide and wild in NZ. Fading colour is not enough to conclude that the belt needed replacement. One can argue why did the next 6 mechanics "fail" to notice the issue despite them checking the belts? I thought that mechanic was pedantic. On the other hand replacing the belt would have meant a lot of work (= money) that was not really required.

Can you give me your mechanic 's address please? I can certainly go to Manukau. Cheers

Bike gets a good going over for $32 (I think) and I know they aren't motivated to find stuff for financial gain. Then again my bike is still original and in good condition so it's usually a breeze.
