I read the whinging with an air of disbelief. They've married their Mums! Or at least a very stern Aunty. I haven't got a "new" bike because my wife let me or I threw a paddy. I have one because we can pay for it from current budget, we have a car that accommodates the rest of the family, and I have the occasional need to be at home early so my wife can be at work on time and the kids aren't left alone. In a couple of years, #1 son will take over the afternoon childcare role, but in the meantime we need to be "responsible parents".

I've acquired a simple bike that will do anything, that I can largely service myself. It has a centre stand so I can take the back wheel out to get a tyre replaced. I also have friends who help with the two man jobs without complaining any more than is necessary (eh Paul). I buy my bits an pieces for the least amount I can, mostly from locally based suppliers, but sometimes from an overseas supplier. It's not that I can't afford bike shop prices, It's just that I can make the money I save work for me in other ways. I'm really sorry if that ticks anyone off.

Back to the lads in the OP article. Umm, you all sound like the sort of people who would be better off in Lance Armstrong replica lycra with a $20k treadly instead of getting involved in my grubby hobby. Oh, and TRY to redefine the parameters of your spousal relationship, because YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

To be fair, I have used that excuse when I just want the sales person to shut up for a sec and let me think. If they then play the 'well aren't you whipped card' they have just lost that sale and any future sale. My wife does the same.

I don't think it is weak chatting to your wife/partner/husband/significant other/sheep about a big purchase. I would expect the same from her before she made a big purchase. My wife and I have been together 18 years and we are PARTNERS. So we discuss shit like that. Little shit, not so much, don't really care, but if it is more than our weekly income, touching base with each other is just a bloody good idea.

Im with you. My wife and I share the decision making and consequences. What I earn is ours, what she earns is ours, we have a joint pool of money to share and spend. If we are going to make a big purchase that commits us to finance or eats a significant chunk of savings or disposable income, then we discuss it. Why wouldnt you? We have been together 25 years and it has worked for us.
We have walked away from many deals simply because the sales person wont give us space to talk about the pros and cons in private.

I've got no problem with that at all. But being told you're not allowed one I do have a problem with.

That's the way we roll too... I don't need to know if she's buying a new microware, and she doesn't need to know if the track bike needs a Brembo RCS master cylinder... but if I want a new billet crankshaft, or she wants a 69" flat screen TV, then we at least need to know we're not buying them both in the same pay period. Or one of us needs to move some savings to a working account. Or whatever.

I have been told "NO. You can't have that" by the wife a few times.
Then i'm like "fuck you bitch, I work hard , never buy myself fuck all, blah blah blah, " at which point she will say " well I don't think you should because of this, this and this"
    She is usually correct.

Yeah ... that's usually the case ... and as oneofsix says .. don't ya just hate it ...

Yeah .. what I hate is not that they are right ... but the way they say it ... if they are right, then reasonable discussion helps .. yelling NO does not!!!

I know my wife found that my having a nice ride made me an easier dog to keep on the porch, so that was easy, and yes I built a couple of bikes in the garage with my son (for him) I have no need for customized bikes, I have an M109, nuf said. Any way the Deus bikes are broomsticks.

Whats having a M109 got to do with customized bikes?
