Police abuse driver

I've had occasion to be stopped by the police on both my bike and in my car. Each time I was in the wrong (few k's over the limit, not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign, etc). I've been on the receiving end of a few "chats" and picked up the odd ticket. On every occasion I've found the police to be polite, respectful and professional. I'm sure there's the odd dick out there like in any job but I've yet to meet one. Anyway...I just thought I'd share my perspective.

On one occasion (and ONLY one) the 126 km/hr indicated on his machine did not match the 103 km/hr indicated on my GPS as the maximum speed I had attained in the previous two hours.

He then tried to claim my GPS required recalibrating ... I believe Jantar has "met" him too ...

A colleague I work with drove her son's car aroudn town one evening/night .. and was a little shocked that she kept being stopped by police officers - who were very surprised to see a middle aged white woman driving the car ... (her husband is Māori so you dan guess how her sons look) .. She now has a better undersdtanding of how her son is treated by the popos ... some of you could learn a lot by tryign the same thing ..

I haven't got a problem with that, what sort of car, what sort of area, what time of the night. Police are supposed to look for suspicious shit and I hope we're not getting that PC that a couple of little dark kids driving around at night or even a middle aged lady driving a boy racer car won't be stopped. That's what we pay them for isn't it? Should they just wait at the station to be called upon... that wouldn't prevent too much crime would it?

I also believe he has given a very generic description of the alleged officer, has spoken extensively to the media and his lawyer but is less forthcoming in speaking to the investigators and supplying his phone so that an electronic analysis of the information on it can be examined.

Was it an Iphone he had that has a fitted camera, and stores GPS information for any image and sound files created?

With the exception of one or two, I have actually found the same.

I stand by my comment that I don't have universal trust in the police, and that is a view based on personal experience.

But in fairness I should also make the point that overall, I haven't had this experience. With the exceptions already discussed police have always treated me honestly and fairly.

I guess the issue for me is, that with the massive imbalance in power between the motorist and the policeman on the side of the road, one or two dishonest police have a massive potential to cause harm, and a level of mistrust in the police that hundreds of good cops struggle to correct.

For gosh sakes --AT NO POINT IN TIME has there been any proof whatsoever that the person on the tape was in fact a police officer.
IMO the 16 year old has fabricated the entire conversation.
What will be amusing is if it turns out that no cop cars were in that area when this soposedly happened. OR if he was pulled over for a ticket and camera footage from cctv /the cop car shows the real story.

I agree with some aspects of this.

The likelyhood of this pimple popper having his iphone on "to record a song on the radio" sounds spurious at best, and the way he speaks to the cop (in my opinion) come across as smarmy and over confident. (like someone who had given a cop the finger to invoke a response he intends to record on his iphone.)

I call genuine on the recording, but not on the circumstances as presented to us.

In my opinion, this kid is a fucking dickhead, and the cop should be commended on identifying him as one.

Just to bring in some perspective. Some people here believe police is corrupted, and by corrupted I mean not taking bribes etc. but being aggressive, unprofessional, categorizing people (young, brown, motorcyclists etc.). I have seen much worse in other countries; to be honest I had little interaction with cops here but in comparison with the ones who operate, say, in the Paris suburbs, I found the NZ police to be rather courteous and efficient and fair. Cherish the freedom you have in this country, here we still have cops not pigs.
