Hey has anyone used suede as a seat cover for their bikes? I'm thinking of making one for my bike but want to hear any pros & cons. What is availibilty like?

Not too sure how well it would end up looking after being in the rain. However there might be waterproofing products available.

Some of the F4s use something that looks like it, might be worth a word with a marine upholsterer.

There's a product around which is a microfibre material, but it has the look and feel of rough brushed suede.

Unfortunately I can't remember what the product name is. I looked into it for a seat covering a while ago, I have seen it used on some custom bikes in a light tan colour. It's waterproof, and has decent stain resistance.
The people I was talking to about it were Papatoetoe Upholsterers in Auckland, they said it was a fairly common product and they used it on several seats they did for Shed 5 Motorcycles. Talk to some auto and marine upholsterers, they'll probably have the same stuff.

My Speed Triple has a partial "suede" seat. Although quite likely it is suede courtesy of Dupont or Monsanto?

No worries will do. Those of you that remember suede "Treks" shoes from the 80's that's the kind of suede I was after.

The early 80s Suzuki katana's had a suede type stuff on there seats..
