Have I accidentally stumbled upon a loophole?

I rode through the Northern Gateway toll road yesterday coming from north to south. As I rode through, there was only one set of cameras and they were facing towards the front of my bike/any car going that way.

As most motorbikes do not have a front numberplate, the camera had nothing to 'look' at - I didn't notice this at the time. I went to pay the toll fare on the tollroad website this morning, entered my numberplate and it said no toll trips were due.

Still not sure if I want to take the risk in leaving it alone or not, as I'd rather not have $50 in fines show up in my mailbox...

There are cameras in both directions. If the automated software doesn't id your plate then it gets sent to some people who attempt to read the plate. Keep looking on line, it will probably turn up.

One of my bikes plate letters has been entered into the system wrong, being an honest person I called them to point this out, hasnt been corrected so I have to go through the tunnel just like it used to be for bikes, FREE

Log into the tollroad website & enter your plate number. When it displays the message, take a screenshot as proof you tried to pay.

I doubt if it makes any difference. When they decide you owe them money .. you will have to pay. No discounts for "trying to pay" ...

At this time of year ... it may take a day or three to show up.

You never know your luck the cameras may have been having an "off" day.

A small electric motor with a switch wired to the numberplate will rotate it enough when approaching the cameras.

Pretty sure the way their website works, is you can pay for trips you have already done, or effectively prepay.
So I wouldnt worry if youve already paid it, should be sorted.

Last time I went through it took three days before the prepaid amount was taken from the account.

Next time get a bit of electrical tape and change one of the letters/numbers to something else IE a 1 to a J or T or a 9 to a 8 etc etc while your on the toll road...at the end just stop and pull it off..

Reminds me of an experience, was heading up through to warkworth for something and mum hasnt got a clue what to do with the online thing so decided to stop at one of those machines on the side of the road. like always both were out of use due to technical difficulties so i suggested that we do it online anyway. Got home and found the camera's had only picked up us one way but not the other. Left it for a day or two, still nothing... Rang the company, they said it was fine, and dont worry about it......

A week later, mum got a lovely letter explaining that she now has a fine for not paying the toll... rang the company explaining the situation, and they didnt give a rats arse, all they wanted was the money, plus the fine she now owed.....

needless to say we no longer take that damn tunnel!
