Info re: top box for gn250?

    Hi all. I recently bought a pack rack;

And am wondering will just any kind of top box of any size fit on this? Thinking a givi or similar, secondhand off tardeme.

I did search the forum quickly, can't find anything that relates to my specific question.

    Cheers..

I don't think you'll find a top box (hard plastic thing) that will fit on a Ventura pack rack, unless there is anything made by Ventura. Generally Ventura make fabric bags that fit on the pack racks such as this Click image for larger version.

That's not to say you couldn't get one to fit with a bit of No. 8 wire

Actually you can, I have one one my ventura rack.

Comes with a plate that bolts on to the rack, easier if you have the short back on it.

    Cheap as chips too.

Do you have that exact one? How are you finding it?

I love the 'motorbike not included' bit in that ad. Pretty cool topbox. Would be great on my little GN, too. But is it really that secure?

hmmmm yes... I kinda just wanted one for if I was going to go away... but would have my normal sissy on most other times and just use my backpack if I had to... I just wonder you know, plastic gets brittle over time eh? hmmm

I have had one on my bike for ages. I used to have a pack-rack and bag. It served me well.

    But ...
    1. It wasn't entirely waterproof.
    2. It wasn't lockable.
    3. It was easily removed from the frame.

Steps can be taken to reduce issues with 1. But the others were a hassle to rectify.

Most topboxes are UV resistant ... and take a bit of punishment.

They are/seem bulky ... but I wouldn't be without mine.

They are quick and easy to remove from the plate if you don't need it. I fit mine on just in case I may need it.

The boxes are lockable ... and locked on the plate. A KEY is required for both actions. And locks can be changed.

Remember though ... locks only keep out honest people. Those that want in ... and have the appropriate tools to achieve this ... WILL. But is usually obvious that their actions are not legal ....

Good advice. Mine is fine, locks to plate and locks shut. Does make you wonder why the givi one is $300 more.

Mine carries my gear to work every day and hasn't leaked in over a year of wellington weather.

Actually ... it doesn't rain here in paradise ... so I'm not sure mine is still waterproof. I might have to take a ride up the west coast to test it.
