Welcome to the forum Danger Dave. I hope you do become a sidecar racer...it's a hell of a lot of fun and we need more mad buggers to fill the grid. But what you will find is that some of us...we...er...us can be serious piss takers. It can be a headache trying to figger out which ones to NOT listen to...eh Gordy (Nodrog). Stop trying to put the possible newby off ya mongrel

From my knowledge Mr Windle never built a bad sidecar

Have you even had a close up look at a sidecar and thought about what it means to run one or talked to any guys that do?

They take up a car sized space in your shed, unless you have a decent sized trailer or a transit van you'll need something to transport it, you'll need a swinger, you cant buy much shit off the shelf for them unless it's engine or brake bits, tyres are $400-500 a shot but can last quite a while depending on how you ride

You'd be better off going to the NZSRA have a go day (if they're having one) this year and having a good talk to people and having a look over some
"If you can make black marks on a straight from the time you turn out of a corner until the braking point of the next turn, then you have enough power."

I have had a talk with a couple of guys that run them and that know people who run them (eg Aaron Lovell, Jay Lawrence) I have a swinger lined up and have no issue with having to manufacture any components that we might need storage and transport are no dramas and the tyres don't seem much considing how much i currently spend on superbike slicks.

At this stage i am still just looking at the class as it is the only other class that holds any appeal to me other than superbikes (which i'm way to slow to be competing in haha) so am just trying to get some opinions on the windle (as that is the only chair that i have found for sale) and was also curious how often they are run (which has been already been answered) but i will no doubt be at paeroa checking a few of them out as well.

There are some plusses as compared to a solo....whatever happens, it's always the swingers fault....the bloody bike won't fall over in the pits......there's someone else there to help with the bills/cleaning/lifting....another house to store the thing at (unless the swinger is family)....etc etc....

Phil didn't use to like the fact that I'd never bother cleaning it because he used to like it looking pretty, but then I got the brakes and shit sorted after he'd been running it with 1.5mm in the front disc mount and a few other things wrong

Chris Lawrence has a chair for sale I think, which might be a better first chair than the Windle. I've only ridden two chairs, and am currently rebuilding our own to race, the Windle was one I've ridden. It's a great bike, but as Kickaha said it might need some work. Where Chris's outfit is ready to go straight away, and a third the price (roughly).

There is this black short bike for sale in ChCh built by Mo Haley.. he is now open to offers, name is Graeme Harris.. I'v seen him offer his for 7,500 with his fast motor in it, he says he will drop the price if you take it with a standard R1 motor and surely the overall price is dropping anyway as he has bought a new bike and needs to get rid of the old one.

The windle has been on trademe for a long time, so I'm sure he is open to cash offers.
