Auckland long weekend riding

Since its a long weekend up this way - sorry to those that have to wait for theirs

I was hoping to get the bike out on Monday for a blast and am looking for somewhere to go. Based in the Hamilton area I don't really know of many places to go that suit my price range - cheaper the better.

Any suggestions for where to go or anyone with a similar plan that doesn't mind a tag along - can provide a trailer if needed

Also 1 last question since it is so dry at the moment can anyone recommend a fire extinguisher and where to get one that is suitable mounting places would also help as well

any bike shop that sells dirt bikes will be able to get you a fire extingusher, i always mount mine to the font gaurd with zip ties, we used to carrty them on our back but my brother and law ha da nasty accident and it hurt his back,

across the handle bars with duct tape is also popular,

There's a trail ride at Maramarua Forest on Sunday too. Price for those is +-$30.

I have been keeping an eye on silverbullet it is a really good site.

The trouble i have is i'm busy as this sunday and the bike is calling me names as i walk past it since it has been in the shed since the 2nd of january.

are kimmies the sandpit etc.open on monday?

Sandpit should be open being a public hol. We are planning to head there usually at opening time

Cheers Scott shot into one of the shops in Hamtown and picked one up. I think the front guard will be the best place for mounting cos there not much space anywhere else, and I don't want to put it on the bars and be worring about a face full of extingusher either if it goes bad.


The sandpit website seems to say htey will be open so looking at the trip up there or thundercross or kimmies if they are open.

I did enjoy the day up at the sandpit last time but the trip home is about 1/2 a hr too long

For fire extinguisher mounting, I've drilled 4 holes in the top of the front guard that I run cable ties through and around the extinguisher. I have a spare, undrilled front guard I swap over for rides that don't need an extinguisher, so I don't have to carry around if not needed (I know it would be easier to just cut the cable ties, but I'm odd and don't like riding around with holes in the guard ).

So where did you go ? Just wondering what woodhill is like when it has been so dry.

Your not odd I have got the same issue with holes in the guard so I just got a roll of tape and taped it on to the front guard - same result no holes but not really the most effective method

I shot up to The Sandpit. Being so dry the sand on the groomed sections was fluffy (soft) as and really hard work, but if you got on to the blues and reds it was pretty good - good covering of needles and soft to firm base except for a few of the hill climbs.

Was a good trip had heaps of fun on a few of the sand berms and tracks so the hard work was rewarding

I wouldn't of put it as an extreme ride. But I would go up in a group because its a very busy piece of track that 4wds are on and mountain bikers aswell. When it gets chopped up it can have some real nasty holes mud holes in it.
