Yip, only thing that is not obviously correct is timing. We've double check everything else repeatedly. It ignites the mixture fine. Just happens to do it in the header pipe unfortunately.

Has it got an adjustable crank angle sensor plate or pick up? If it was cam timing, it would still ignite in the cylinder, but if it was ignition timing, it could ignite too far retarded...........
Is it still beastiality if ya fuck a frozen chicken??

If cam timing is right, does it have bent exhaust valves??
Have you done a compression test on it?

how do you do yours? I throw a mini cadbury cream egg down the plug hole and see if it gets squished. then I know I got compression..

cam angle and crank angle sensors are fixed position items.

    Have compression tested it.

He would no doubt notice better throttle response in the first two gears, because factory timing in first and second is retarded to make the bike more controllable. A resistor in the gear position indicator wire to the ecu would have fixed that.

All he has done is promote detonation in the higher gears with middleish throttle.

As far as my understanding goes anyway.

Have you swapped over the inner & outer plug wires, or coil wires as the case may be to swap the spark 180 degrees?

His one does seem to run though

I remember Pirates short bike being pushed up and down Manfield trying to get it to go, then someone thought to check that and it fired up striaght away, it was a bit of a rocket when it was going which normally wasn't very long

Have you checked tyre pressures? Maybe it's that?
Or a good one that catches most people out is the chain can be too tight!

I've even heard over tightened steering head bearings can cause combustion down the headers....

Actually, even too much rebound on ya shock can cause that effect....

Shouldn't be too hard to diagnose............

    FUCKING Kawasaki!

There are at least two differences between the 2000 and 2001 zx12r. They changed from a 16 bit processor to a 32bit item. At the same time, they decided to deposition the cam angle sensor by about thirty degrees.

File the locator for your 2001 cam angle sensor off, eye ball it to about where it's sitting your possibly bent 2000 exhaust cam, chuck the cover on, and PRESTO! It runs like a FUCKING gem!

Well done Alan for finding said info and saving years of FUCKING about trying to find a simple solution to Kawasaki's retardation.
