AG100 Bucket?

I am a keen 14 yr old boy with a ag100 and i am currently using it as a dirt bike but think i will find turning it into a bucket would be a lot more fun.I have another set of rims so i would be able to do both. what are you thoughts im am from tauranga by the way.

Give it a go. My 14yr old son is racing and really enjoying it. Make sure you have the basics covered as far as bike prep goes and our gear.

In case you missed it, there is racing in Te Puke this weekend, I think. North Island round 5 so should be a good turnout if you want to check some racing.

Saturday is practice starting about 12
Sunday racing from about 9 finishing up around 3.
Come and have a look and introduce yourself, you should be able to get an idea on if it's going to be your thing or not.

A while ago they were reasonably common. As they are a bit old most riders go for something else. If it's what you have though it'll be fine to get going on. Don't expect to be at the pointy end of A grade though.

If you can manage it get along to Te Puke and you'll see what is being ridden. At the last meeting a guy was riding an old Suzuki GP100 which was common when guys raced the AG bikes and he was going OK toward the back of B grade.

It depends on what you feel is decently competitive, how well you shop and what is available.

FXR price varies, pretty much 1K plus, up to 2 grand for a good one and more for somehting special. (If an FXR can be called that)

Supply and depmand influences this noticably, they may go up or down by the time you can buy one.

If you have enough mechnical skills you should be able to build something pretty good for a grand or so if you are smart about it.

Anything with 17" wheels, can be made to handle by putting slicks of them. They seem to soak up bad suspension and chassis to a point. The point being a crash.

Personal opionion is get it to a state where you can turn up to the track and ride it. Then worry out making it faster/modifing things.

He's right, but just ignore him. Make sure it's going OK, bludge some tyres from somewhere and give it a go. Do NOT spend a lot of $$$ on it. Save it for a better bike if you like bucket racing.
