You're lucky he's not a more bike savvy cop. Your bike isn't a LAMS approved one

I hate to be the one to tell you this!

But the Honda CB400SF Vtech models are not on the LAMS list.

It's confusing as, but honda CB400SFs that are LAMS approved are the old 408cc ones. Look at the CC column on the LAMS sheet.

The LAMS approved Honda CB400 SFs are 408CCs. They were made in like the 70s and it's a SOHC single. The Vtec models are 399ccs, are actually known as the CB400 SF project big 1 NC-31 (stupid fucking name I know)

They're different bikes. The CB400 SF Vtecs don't meet lams reqs and aren't on the list.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CB400
    http://www.nzta.govt.nz/licence/gett...torcycles.html

    It's all in there!

Now, as you found out today, most cops can't tell the difference. But if you run into one that DOES know the difference, you can get slapped with riding outside your license conditions. Same as if you got caught after 10pm.

Moral of the story: Don't get caught. Either ride to the speed limit, or floor it when the copper comes after you!

Wrong again Glow , ruby is a cb400 sfv bol dor . Was sold to me as a lams bike , and i dont give a fuck anyway have the papers to say its lams and the rego label says cb400 (cbx400 in japan) . Lams in aus which is what our list is made from they are on the list . And yeah was thinking of running .lol loss of license not my cup of tea and a bike can out run a car not so much a bike . The cop was a Good cunt , laughed when he said it was good to see you do a "life saver" ( i move my head and hips round when changing lane ) it was a shit start to the day but fuck i was glad it wasnt the day i gave it a fist full to see how fast it could go .lol ( 190 speed limited )

Relax, homie I doubt you ever get pulled on it, but you should still be aware of the law and how it works It doesn't matter if it was sold to you as a LAMS bike (Coleman's suzuki were selling "LAMS Approved" bikes with aftermarket exhausts, for example, which made them non LAMS approved).

Doesn't matter what the rego label says either! Espeically since the CB400 is a 395cc single cylinder bike that puts out like 27 BHP and not a 53 BHP IL4

The only CB400 SF V-tecs that are LAMS approved in Australia are the 2008 and onward EFI ones. Honda lopped some Horsepower off of the 2007 and earlier models to fit them into the LAMS list.

They still aren't on our LAMS list, however. You could probably submit a 2008-onward model to get them added to our LAMS list, which would cover you for the earlier years unless NZTA starts putting years on the LAMS list like Australia does (that would be too fucking helpful though).

Look at the CC ratings on the LAMS list. All of the Honda CB400 SF vtecs are 399ccs. No 399cc honda 400s are on the LAMS list.

I thought the same thing you did till ducatilover set my straight and i did some digging. http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...-a-GS500/page2 it's all there if you want to have a gander.

Don't want to take the wind out of your new bike sails! But you should be aware of the fact if a cop is having a bad day or you fail the attitude test, he can slap you around with extra fines if he gets a reason to go looking.

Just ride them well and ride them responsibly, and you won't need to worry about getting pulled over - NZspokes and I can testify to that...

No worries about that, James has got a great smile and attitude... All he needs to do to make the poppo smile and laugh is tell him where he works, and then make Mr Po cry when James tells him how much they pay!

Was out just now. Stopped and chatted with a lovely couple on a USA Yamaha 1700cc Roadstar - man from California and his Kiwi lady. Beautiful debaffled pipes. Great day...

Least 400cc probably wouldn't set off any alarm bells in a cop's head. Anything over would probably have their antenna twitching, I can imagine!
