    Moon - bloody brilliant
Outland - exploding bodies in space!
Silent Running - robots playing poker.
The Black Hole - Disney's forgotten space adventure

    And foreign entry:
Test pilota Pirxa - Stanslaw Lem's famous pilot on the silver screen (unless the Russkies didn't have silver then it was eggwash - who gets that reference?)

Black Hole was awesome back then (still is set design-wise), but slow moving by today's standards.
Yeah, as in excruciatingly slow at times...
Sometimes a slow film can be great because it's slow. Fistful of Dollars trilogy, No Country For Old Men, Heat, 2001, Le Mans, Citizen Cane, Das Boot, Dances with Wolves, Top Gun.....

Slightly off topic but, I'd love to see some of Neal Asher's books on the big screen, or Richard Morgan's Takeshi Kovacs books as well...

How about Peter Hamilton. Would his works translate to screen ok? He has some fantastic ideas but the books have exponential exposition.

Incredibly huge universe with very complex threads he created, not sure if audiences will follow...

Yeah, I've read most of his and he's a great writer but some of his conclusions are almost too simple, almost as if he couldn't be bothered with it anymore and just decided to finish it off as quick as possible....Fallen Dragon might be a good place to start though?. BTW, if you like Hamilton and haven't read Asher, do it...you'll love it

I got about 15 minutes into the original but it was just to shit to watch

Lexx would be one of my favourites, they need to do a Hammers Slammers movie

The Greg Mandel books would do very well on film IMO. The others are just far to complex and epic for film.

Naked Lunch? A talking typewriter with lips that look just like a vagina? That is one weird weird movie.

Not space based but a all time fav of mine - Bladerunner. Any version is just fine (I have the lot).

And if you like them, John Ringo's Legacy of the Aldenata Series is right up there, a bit of a different take on galactic wars.
