    Very good.... and moving along...
Yours is the carpark at Gibraltar Rock on the Summit Road (quite close to Rhodes Spring) with the rock behind you showing in your mirror. I'm guessing the pic was pulled from a GoPro or something as my phone can't reproduce anywhere near the wide angle of your shot.
Here's what I did get... even got a car turn up for the second go.

It's on a sealed road D. On the track (excuse the pun) of the Waiau branch line.

The tag can also be seen on Google maps streetview.

The title on the plaque is 'Medbury' for a station that was called 'Medbury' most likely then in a place called 'Medbury' which is a fairly small locality with only one sealed road called....

Off the beaten track? Not by my standards

I think you need to get off the beaten track a bit more D.

You can still follow the trail the rail track followed on Google maps (Sat view) from Waikari.

    www.teara.govt.nz/en/map/10337/canterbury-rail-routes
    and
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waiau_Branch
are the main links I see looking now.
I actually stumbled upon the stone and did not notice any sign of a railway from the past left in the land but those hills in the background would have led me pretty quickly to the general area. Quite distinct.

Dont need to, turn left before the pub

Click on this link then zoom in from Waikari. Follow the dotted line. According to Wiki ... the tag is 4.8 km's past Hawden.
