The weird thing about my close encounter of the near-death kind was that usually when subjected to unpleasant surprises like that it's a great shock and I tend to freeze. I was actually completely calm, unlike my wife. Dunno if RacerDude was so calm and stain-free.

I know this is Kiwibiker, but I really have to say, my car rocks! (I think my bike's sulking though; since I bought the PissHat, the VFR's feeling rather rough. Still goes as well as ever, just feels... not quite right, for the first time ever, in its 120,000-odd km life...
Still, here they are together, snuggling up like best buddies (like our doggies):
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Has this thread suddenly been merged with the one about gay marriage? It just went all pink.

Well, actually... As a species we are social animals. Like many species of "higher" mammals, we gather together for a number of reasons that were programmed into us by our biology; together we can prosper more than we ever can apart. Citys are a natural extension (admittedly a rather overblown one) of that natural grouping behaviour. It is in fact those that choose to live in isolation that are "not normal". However, I'd be the last person to judge someone for that choice.

1- and you've got some kind of evidence that cities create/cause/breed/have anything to do with prosperity?! been to otara lately?
the last time i was in JAFA land i walked past three homeless begging, two guys asleep on the street and a group at a bus stop wanting to bum smokes off me. highly prosperous. all in the half an hour i spent walking across the bottom of town.

2- you clearly don't share the definition of "normal".

The thing with cities is that the minority things become more apparent. I'm not saying that cities are all positive, just that in a population of over a million a few people on the bones of their arse become more evident.

Normal: conforming to the standard or the common type
About 90% of the world's population live in cities. By the above definition this is normal.

Anyway, my point is not that cities are wonderful; they have their good and bad points just like any other living space. My point is that to judge an individual simply based on where they choose to live is a form of prejudice and only exposes your ignorance.

Thanks for that. It really makes me feel special.
Honestly though, this place (KB) is all about whining about other riders doing things on the road that don't look sensible and shit like that. The guy of course just wrote that post to show off his new cage and added in the story of the dickhead biker to win your interest. Every fucking day I'm out there with my bike (I don't do the coro loop on sundays though, too many dicks with german cars around) and every fucking day some cager does something completely stupid and selfish that could kill me. And one day they probably will.
Is this a biker or cager forum? Or a police forum?

So, you support bikers being on the wrong side of the road on blind corners?

Would you be happy if the biker mentioned, collided with Viff and died during this blind-corner overtake?

Where did I say that? It makes me feel special that I don't belong to this kind of home made fun police bullshit. And of course I wouldn't be happy if somebody got hurt or died. I'm not like you guys there waiting for something like this to happen so that you can come here on KB to whinge saying that bikers are fuckwits and that you said it all before and you are good and sensible and you deserve green bling from this conformist keyboard riders community.

I will admit that I wasn't there so don't know the exact details. However, if you're regularly not leaving enough room before a blind corner then you do us all a disservice. This is bad enough but to then belittle the car driver is beyond a joke. I enjoy a good blat as much as anyone but you need to grow up and stop using your bike as a groinal extension.

Look, Gianz, it's all very well being all grumpy and "feeling special that I don't belong to this kind of home made fun police bullshit", but no-one's forcing you to come here. And if this is a troll, it's rather inept. Either way, what do you hope to gain by it?

I said only that this particular biker was a fuckwit. What else would you call being on the wrong side of the road on a blind corner, when immediately afterwards there was a long straight?
Am I always "good and sensible"? No. Nor did I imply that all bikers are fuckwits, although I know how easy it is to make a mistake like this (it's a case of "been there, done that"). It's all too easy to let the speed creep up, the testosterone overide the caution, and things to turn pear-shaped. Also, I'm no angel, and if that makes me a hypocrite, it doesn't matter. If someone - anyone - reads this, thinks about it, and thinks twice before risking their life like this, then great.
Was I "waiting for something like this to happen"? No, of course not. I have no doubt that if I'd been less aware, or froze up like I have before in similar circumstances, or the biker had been going faster or whatever, that hitting him (whether he died or not), would have really fucked me up.
I posted on here, because either the biker is not a KBer (or is keeping quiet) and because my wife asked me too, because she was so shocked.
    ... and that's what I think.

Bro, it wasn't me. And I'm not trying to defend the biker, we all make mistakes and some of us are retarded by definition. And I don't want to belittle the car driver for what he did, but for the way he's writing here.

I'm happy to see that you're not going personal again (I probably write like a Neanderthal, but English is not my first language, nor the second or third).
I come here because it's supposed to be a motorcycling forum not a VW lover's forum. And I don't have nor want to gain anything. Is it so hard to understand that somebody has got different opinions? In this forum you get bad rep not for the way you express your opinions (personal abuses or stuff) but for the reasoning behind your opinions, that's why I'm proud of my red.
