police will be able to issue £100 fine and three-points for careless driving offences that currently have to go through the courts.
This is the bit that I have an issue with. Yet more instant fines with no chance whatsoever to offer up a defence.

Well as it is not a rule/fine for NZ there is no need for you to concern your soft constitution.

Must say I'm somewhat surprised at the level of ignorance surrounding the legal obligation to keep left coming from bikers.
I hope at the least if you didn't think it law you at-least followed it out of common courtesy

Only a matter of time. Unfortunately the trend in the western world seems to be a return to a feudal society. Increasingly us peasents have absolutely no recourse if we don't like what those on high say about the way we live our lives.

If you read the article, they mention that people can still defend it in court... they're just trying to decrease the load on the courts.

Not revolting enough. We need a little revolution now and then.

One could argue that that is actually what I said. Or at least meant to imply.

In Lower Hutt there are signs approximately every kilometer along the motorway (the pedants will be along shortly with the correct name of the section of road beside the river between Haywards & Kelson). These signs say "Keep left unless overtaking" and I must say, most people seem to obey these signs. Moving to D'Auckland I soon noticed that the trend was in fact the opposite, most people keep right unless undertaking. I'm yet to see a single sign anywhere in D'Auckland to remind motorists of their obligation to keep left. Maybe the authorities figure it's a waste of time as the habit seems to be ingrained in the driving habits of so many D'Aucklanders (and Hamiltonians too, it seems)?.

yes, the old rolling road block is certainly frustrating.

most annoying is when its caused by police cars doing 80k in 100k zones, no-one is game to pass them and so we end up with a huge pack of cars doing 80 and hundreds of metres of clear roads ahead.

i wonder if peoples fear of passing a police car is because of the over zealous speed limit policing in this country?

just makes me love the bike even more.

What is it with bloody poms coming here and trying to create little britain?

Bugger off home if its so good.

There is no reason not pass in a clear lane on a motorway. The barrier stops any moron panicking and swerving into oncoming traffic so there is no reason - except for people wanting to play controller of all by doing 95km/h in the 'fast' lane to prevent anyone getting past them as they are the safest of all.
