Bandit 250 VS RS125

I'm currently in a dilemma..

I don't know which bike I should get between a Suzuki Bandit 250 1991 (26,000ks) or a Rs125 1997 (24,000ks w/ recent rebuilt + parts).

They're roughly about the same price, however the only reason I'm leaning towards the RS125 is that I wouldn't mind having a go at putting a RS250 engine in the bike at some point.(probably more trouble than it's worth)

The bandit hasn't been used much in the last 5 years, occasionally ridden and startd semi-regularly however there has been no maintenance done to the engine over the last 5 years, only up keep done was to allow the bike to get constant WoF's. I'm also guessing that early 90-95's bandit parts would be hardish to come by considering the bike was made 22 years ago.

Sounds like you are not flexible with the budget. Then I recommend bandit?

I think the 250 engines go right in & so do the 500s but you have to change some of the engine bolts to twin start wingnuts & that could cost $40 or more & there's three bolts.

Alright, cheers for your input it might be decided then. Now I just have to find someone to check out the bike for me since the bikes up in Auckland and I'm down in Wellington..

They bolt right in?! Oh my god, maybe that would be my next step after the bandit, either that or a RGV250.

RS125's make great commuters. Be sure to get a genuine HRC luggage rack and you can do the shopping on one as well.

good point; a programmable ignition upgrade should be able to calculate your weekly spend & whether you qualify for a petrol discount voucher

Ahhh more people for the RS125, awesome okay. I really didn't figure it would be that simple, how much would a RS250 engine cost? (w/ all needed extras)

The reliability of RS's worry me a bit too, I hear that RS engines are more complicated than other 2strokes and parts for them seem to cost a bit.

You are not getting an RS250 engine into an RS125 chassis.

I would take the RS125 beacause it is a lightweight sportsbike that will go like a cut cat. Bandit 250 is just another boring old 4 stroke

Get the RS125. You live but once...

Forget about modifying it. Use it for a few months while you get your full, then flick it on for close to / over what you paid for it, or keep it for sentimental value if you have the space.

Arrrgghh you got me, I heard of a guy awhile ago putting a RS250 engine in the 125 without much trouble. When you said it was possible I just took it for fact ops:

I'm not sure if I'll fit on the RS125 though, I'm 6ft3" - The riding position is pretty extreme as well!

Errr I really don't think you'll be getting a RS250 lump in a 125 frame without an angle grinder and tig

Both are completely different bikes, the Bandit is going to last longer and be easier to live with/ride/cheaper to run.
The RS is a miniature hooligan machine, a great one at that.
