"Come on now share the sandpit, I got to have somewhere to ride my horse"

They put the gate at the MX track cause trail riders were not sticking to the tracks and killing
nesting birds - see Waimak Recreation Park the new title ...

Could be worse could be the south side with all the good single track ... next stage will probably be to
    charge users in each area

Hi mate, seen you getting out and about on the Busa in the ongoing WRN thread.
I'm still kinda in recovery mode after the QBW ride, just finished replacing the handlebars, borrowed the plastics for my handguards from the set on the Transalp to replace a broken one, got the tool roll all over the lounge floor (it's dry now but I'm using some of the tools).
Doing the Air Filter tonight, the washing bit, hope to oil it tomorrow night.

I haven't seen the local dirt roads recently but look forward to getting out again soon.
I imagine they (like the Bossu area) have a few greasy spots mixed in with the gravels especially with all the rain currently happening. The basic Waimak south bank roading to the gorge should have some big cool slippery bits now.
Pyramid Valley area usually gets gooey too.
Be good to get a sunny weekend to have a go... just be nice to clear some bills first.

Me too, now that I've finished working on houses I should have a bit more free time for 2 wheeled recreational activities, might have to stick the knobblies on the drz and get out for a ride if the weather plays ball.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

With all the wet weather about there's flooding and slips around Banks Peninsula, some information is listed on the CCC site but not the flooding that I saw coming back on Akaroa Rd.
Even the Summit Road had rivers going across it I was just glad it wasn't sheet ice lol.

Mate did lee's valley from the oxford end and the river was to high for them to dare to cross, a 4WD turned back too.

With all this snow the single track at the mak be perfect

Lees Valley River (Okuku Fox Creek on the ECAN Flow thing) has been up and down like a yo yo since end of April, and the peaks have been getting higher and higher. Hasn't been crossable since about the 16th this month.
Still like to go in just to see it up over 100.

Now that you are an expert river crosser (after Queens Birthday) what flow rate would be considered uncrossable?

Ha ha, I think the kind of bottom, wether the rocks are round and/or have growth on them makes a big difference but yea I feel I got better at it over that weekend until burning out energy wise.

For Lees Valley I tend to agree with ADVGDs site....
    Rough guidelines for safe crossing
1 to 3 cm3/sec : Easy and safe to cross
3 to 5 cm3/sec : Safe to cross, may get a little deep/swift in sections
5 to 8 cm3/sec : Can be challenging, you may need use braids to get across
    8 cm3/sec + : Potentially unsafe to cross.

With the river that low the meter was said to be a little less accurate (don't see that notice now) so we may still make it but once she's reading over 10 I would be getting very doubtful even with an inaccurate meter, I'd still wonder at 8.

    Dayride Sunday the 7th July

Ok it's been a while....Who's keen for a dayride Sunday?
I'm throwing a couple of options out there and we'll go with the concensus

Option A: A squirt around Banks Peninsula...through Port Levy over to Little River around Bossu to Wainui etc...u know the route
Option B: Southside of Waimak to Oxford, thru Lees Valley then McDonald Downs ($10 koha) to Waikari then Up to Lake Sunmer and Back via Lees Valley and Rangiora

Both have opt out options for those short on time
