Well to be fair, in between having my kids every second weekend and costs I dont get out as much as I would like. But its a great treat when I do. I do the Waitamata club Family days as I know they will be fun. I will do a few trips to Thundercross park in summer as it will be fun.

Do what you can when you can and enjoy it. You dont have to be the best rider to enjoy..

Well, get on a few web sites and find yourself a rich farmer.

True that. I cannot ride for shit compared to all the bike rider GODS on this site, but I know how to have fun. And that more than makes up for any lack of ability. Sure I fall off, and sometime hurt quite badly, but I forget about that pretty quickly when I am sitting on top of a fucking big mountain with the sun shining, thinking, DID I just ride up that, I usually end up going home with a huge grin.

I know I will never be a great trail rider. But blasting about the forest on my KDX is just to much fun.

Push bike helps fitness, wobble board helps balance control and natural response to righting the balance while on a bike....and it does tone the muscles

Fitness is something I seriously need to work on...... it surprised me how dirt unfit I had become on the the short ride I had the other day, Its been ages since I got the push bike out and it really shows

Stamina & strength in your torso & legs is what your after for a fun day in the saddle without being knackered at lunch time. Arm pump is for hard core riding, constant bang bang bang. Never been hard core, never had arm pump.

Somebody mentioned Judo. That would do it, you end up harder than a blacksmiths anvil.

But I'm past it for Judo now, did my stint, so I would suggest going old school, sit ups, press ups, squats, duck walking, bunny hops, burpees etc. Get you bum cheeks, thighs & stomach muscles working & they will support you all day long. Riding off road, standing up, you need that strength to be agile on the bike. You need stamina too, running & swimming give you duration, make your heart & lungs feed those big muscle groups.

Somebody mentioned breathing. Stamina training will give you a rhythm, steady, effective breathing. When you work out exhale right from the bottom of your lungs & inhale from the bottom up, your stomach should swell if you do it properly. Most of the time even gym bunnies only use a fraction of their lung capacity, breathing shallow & just using the top part of the lungs. You end up panting quickly & have early oxygen debt. Air is like petrol for peoples.

Carbs will give you energy but for you to be efficient your body needs to work well, plenty of vitamins & minerals from fresh fruit & veggies will allow your body to maximise carb & protein energy release.

I use a juicer for my vits & mins. Apples, beetroot, celery, carrots, oranges, kiwis (the fruit) etc. Fire em in & gulp it down. Knocks the socks of Red Bull, all day...

Mine and Michael's bikes are getting closer to sorted so we will do another ride soon but it will be a gentle ride, No skid fest as the ground will rip up pretty easy, Will be looking for flatter ground as Rose doesn't like hills, still scared of them
Will let you know when and see if it suits time wise, Depending on where we go and who with might be a day out for yah kids as well
