    Exhaust Fab

    Will post up my stainless steel fab efforts in this thread. Give us a PM if you need anything made, repaired or joined.

    Collector for a Hayabusa Turbo header. 304 Stainless.

    All angles were calculated with a 90c protractor, and home made bevel square and cutting jig. Cut with a Makita drop saw.

    Machine Settings:
    42amps max current on the foot pedal. 2.4mm 2% Thorated electrode, 1.6mm filler. 5mm stickout, 12mm stickout for the corners. Gas lense with a stubby nozzle. 12Lpm argon flowrate.

    Lol yeah. I always find it helps to post settings so others who are attempting the same thing have a bit of knowledge before starting. Cunts do it for me so I will do it for them. Does sound extremely nerd though...

    Welds look pretty tidy, must have been fun getting right in those Vs eh!

    Is the 90deg between outside headers good for gas flow? or does it not matter so much with a turbo?

    It'll go better with the turbo anyway, but if you google search , "tuned length turbo headers", you're likely to join Akzle in the after glow lounge.

    Lol trust me mate its something I need alot more practice at.

    number 4 torch tip seems to get most places for me, 35-40 on the floor tends to be a good setting for grunt..
    Yeah I used and number 6 sized cup for this. Most of the time I use a 8 and hardly ever take it off.

    Is the 90deg between outside headers good for gas flow? or does it not matter so much with a turbo?
    Can you explain what you mean a little bit better? There will be 90 degree bends leading into this collector and they should be fine for the application. 6-7psi. I know crudely made log manifolds are good for up to 350 - 400hp but can be restrictive. If your pressed for space though they do tend to be the best option and you can build them very cheaply with basic tools and knowledge.

    I will be welding this up fully before the weekend. I have a cast set of 304 sprigots and some lazer cut flanges to go on. Will tack it up to the bike and make sure it fits then weld the rest

    Yeh good point. Had a mate who did equal length turbo headers on an integra, had like 40 different peices or something fucking ridiculous and weighed upwards of 10kg iirc; 3 or 4mm mild steel as its a bit hard to mig stainless . Was too convoluted to look good, but I think it made a lot of power, and burnt the paint of his hood cos the clearance was less than ideal... Wish I had got photos of that fucker.

    As the gas flows in from the outside it'll flow straight at the wall of the opposite side, get a bit more turbulance than if the headers were pointing more in the same direction. Mind you with a turbo and short headers, there is probably going to be some backflow anyway.

    what bogan is getting at is the angle of the collector which is going to create a hell back pressure.. or wave refraction..
    admittly on a bike space is certainly limited I have done twice now a four into two into one in a very short space

    don't knock logs they do have uses..

    You will find a well designed collector will actually help draw the gas through the tubes. As gas passes through the collector it helps suck the gas thats on its way through from the next cylinder. There is a real science to equal length headers and im studying up on it at the moment.

    Plan on making a set of 4 -1 headers for my FZR1000 next.

    You can MIG stainless bro but the wire is expensive. 5kg will cost nearly $100, same with tig wire. Welding aint cheap to get into but I love doing it

    Definetly not knocking log manifolds mate. They do save space and you can weld them with a $100 arc welder from bunnings.
