Yeah yeah, should be getting another bike etc... but with the way things are, the car takes precedence.
So I've been looking at this thing or this thing
Any experiences, concerns etc...

I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
Doris has a 2.3 V5 MkIV Golf.
Chain driven timing = good.
Not particularly economical to run = not so good.
Squeaky, rattly, annoying sounds from deep within the dash = even worse.
Expensive diagnosis & repair of faulty o2 Sensor recently = arse.
They go alright though, even if a bit rattly in the valve-train at around 2,000rpm.
Would I buy another V5 VW? Fuck no, give me a Corolla any day.
Just saw the Peugeot. Have you driven one? I find the lines quite pleasing to the eye but they drive like a early 1990's Starlet - extremely basic.
Buy a Corolla.
Will go check oot Toyota right noooo. Ta.

I know I will get shot down but DONT buy secondhand older higher kms euro CRAP unless you have access to a third car to drive while the second car is in the workshop yet again. Buy a corolla as the man above said.
Time for a new Dealer bro...just don't do it to yourself!
... point taken.
So parameters for a "good" second-hand Corolla? Does age really matter or is it K's traveled? What's the avg K's before death (ball park, ass hat figure)?
I ended up doing a search for chain drive small cars and came up with this little beauty... which ticks all of the boxes. Shame I can't find one in pink.

A mate has a Corolla that was run dry of oil at about 200,000k thanks to a forecourt attendant not replacing the filler cap. Oil was put back in & the filler cap replaced & it's now at around 400,000 on the same donk.
I'm not qualified to answer your questions to the degree your questions deserve. You've stopped looking at V5 VW's so my work here is done.
Doug, stop polishing yer knob!
