    Advice wanted on stolen bikes

Hey guys a few back I had a bike stolen . I have seen it on trademe recently and told the police but feel they aren't that interested. Understandably I am very keen to have it. How would I get on if I went and "got" it back myself. Reprocussions??

Depends whos got it, I got one back off a local gang of fuckwits down here known as the firm, I was actually disappointed at the amount of resistance they gave me. I even made them push it back across town to my folks place where they stole it from.

A few what? Days, weeks, years?

If years then it's probably not being sold by the guy that stole it. If the cops knocked on your door could you prove you owned it?

Sorry, 4 years ago but doesn't change the fact it was stolen, no insurance. From the photo it looks like it has been stored for awhile. Ill be really fucked off if the police don't get it. I have a photo before it got taken. Same grips. Same creases in plastics, same after market seat cover. Crack in the air box, holeshot device, aftermarket axle blocks. And compare scuffs on engine case and its like a finger print.

do you have any serial numbers to prove it is the same bike?

after four years theyll probably just argue that its been dropped a bunch and its just a coincidence that there are similarities.

Id be inclined to go and 'look' at it, take a camera, ask questions about it, how long theyve had it etc.
Youd wanna be pretty fuckin certain it was your old one before doing anything drastic

Having owned an ex-stolen bike I can let you know that insurance might have gotten it back and then on sold it. So don't jump to conclusion immediately.

This is what you should do. If they say they have had it for 4 year..........burn their house down.

Police might be ignoring your stolen bike but they certainly won't ignore you doing their job for them.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

If you still have the crime number, call the station where you reported it stolen every day and ask for an update. Ask if it has been assigned to anyone to investigate, if it has ask to speak to them. Keep doing this until they do something about it.
