If you had $6,000 to spend on a bike?

Looking for ideas about what to buy next.
Have been considering mid '00 600cc super-sports such as the ZX6R and GSXR600.
1000cc supersports aren't off the table, I was mainly looking at the 600's due to lower cost overall for rego and consumables (tyres!).
I'd like something reasonably new, (03/04 onwards), and lower KM's (<40,000) would be good.
Use will be daily commuting, weekend rides and track days.

Upper price limit is $6000, but less is better.

The current favourite is an '05 ZX6R as I rather like the ergonomics of them, but it can be hard to find a good one under $6k.

Really just looking for ideas and opinions to broaden my search criteria.

You'll still go through tyres pretty rapidly on a 600 sports coz they warrant decent rubber

    Yeah I'd rock that one.

Thous destroy the centre of tyres if you're a commuter.

    That's overpriced.

Value for money, you'd get a K4 gixxer thou for $6K if you're prepared to wait and make the offer as the pop up. I've seen them advertised in good nic for less.

K6/K7 gixxer 6 for that money. Or a semfiddy if you're very lucky.

Unstuck might be onto something with the DR, but were I you and looking dual purpose, I'd buy a TDM850 for $4K and a set of big wheels.

hmm, I know of at least two R1's that have sold within that bracket in the last few months. some of the older r6's and zx6s can be found in that range as well.

depends on what you want it for. 6k would buy a great track toy!

Now that mother fucker is dreaming.

Obviously with summer on the way, prices are on the rise.

Al who swings the chair with me, scored a K6/7 gixxer six for less than $6k. And they're only getting older.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I've been looking through trademe and wondering what the fuck happened to all the 5 - 6k bikes. I remember looking at 06 - 07 GSXR and ZXR 600s for ~6k last year.
Guess I'll just have to wait and see what pops up, that GSXR thou looks pretty good, might have to have a look at it. Might be able to beat him down a little on the price due to it needing tyres

I think that this 04 (not actually an 05) ZX6R would be worth having a look at, but seems a wee bit steep pricewise.

Might throw out an offer in the low to mid 5s and see what happens.

Also, what do you lot think of this CBR600? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=552550614

How about get extra $4k personal loan from the bank and go nuts on your choice?
