Bought this! 05 ZX6R, exactly what I wanted. Cost a little more than I was hoping to spend, but worth it I think.
Rode it back from Palmerston North to Hamilton last night, the ergonomics are great. I'm a tall guy (6'2) and I didn't have any undue stress on wrists or back.

The desert road last night was the worst riding conditions I've ever experienced. Getting blown straight across into the other lane by huge gusts of wind. The fog and sideways rain really didn't help matters either; helmets don't have windscreen wipers
Ended up averaging about 65 kph in low gear so that I could react to the gusts by leaning in and powering back over onto my side of the road. Would much rather go into a ditch than into a trucks grill.
    Never again.

Yeah it's good fun, the 6RR would have been nice due to the cheaper rego but I couldn't find one!

    Hey guys,

As the ski season is now drying up it's time to get myself a summer toy. I'm in a very similar boat here. Am after a nice fun 600 for around 6-7k. Ideally something along the lines of an R6, CBR 600RR, perhaps a ZX6R or even maybe a GSXR (so pretty much anything with an 'R' by the sounds haha). Budget might be able to creep slightly for an exceptional deal but obviously the lower the better. Year wise, anything post mid 2000 would be considered.

Looking on trademe it's a bit of a mixed bag. Some seem really over priced (especially when reading some of the comments in this thread). If you see/hear of any good deals please post em up =)

all the good toys are just starting to pop up now. take your time and spot the deal. e.g. theres an 05 R1 thats about 3k overpriced, has been on there for aaaaggggeeeeees. by comparison, a mate listed a tidy 99 R1 a couple weeks ago, and its just been sold. good deals go quick, you have to ferret them out from among the overpriced stuff is all!

Just had a look through trademe and there's even less around than when I was looking! Some shocking asking prices on some of those auctions.

Oooooo, maybe try your luck and offer this guy 6.5 - 7k.

It's got some cosmetic damage though, so I guess it depends on whether that kinda thing bothers you.

You would REALLY REALLY struggle to get a better road bike than one of these. They do everything, so unbelievably well that it's criminal.

seconded. I had a K4 for about a year. Have always been a bit prejudiced against suzukis, but that K4 changed my mind bigtime. fuckall differences between the K1 and K4 I think.

K4 was an improvement in lap times at a track, smaller with better brakes and shit. But as an all rounder, the K1/2 would be my pick.

I toured both islands on mine, also rode it like an animal a lot. Couldn't fault it.
