I lived in Oz five years and was fully employed the whole time, two years by meself.

Saw most of the Southern states driving wide/over sized loads pilot to everywhere.
Rode my HD Shovel on as many of the better roads I drove on at work.

Got ripped off heaps while learning to do bussiness with Aussies then just as things were getting good I decided it was getting boring again an the whole country was really a hot dirty place full of cunts that tell the same sheep joke to often and junkies that steal your shit when your not home.
    And God forgive me but,,,Abo's

The fishing was also not very good unless you were willing to travel fuck'n miles

Then the Gov't reduced the rights of legit firearms owners following Port Arthur.
I had a small collection of rifles I was going to import from NZ to Oz but it soon became pretty obvious it wasn't going to happen.

So now the fishing is pretty good on my doorstep, the roads are better for bikes, the grass is green,an there's no snakes or freaky lizards an fish that sting real bad.

Oz was fun but it ain't home.

    Relax dude.

You mean to stay you got rid of the stink, the shitbags, The legacy of shithouse management from every council in the last 50 years, the small minded morons, and removed barriers so as to enable business to get a foothold so the town has the ability to offer viable employment and retain more of its young people thereby increasing trade for the commercial district and creating a housing market......

Or did you just add an H.

    Yeah, Awesome work New Zealand.

Hope that came with a decent cash payout for the brothers.

Well, I seem to have gotten the wrong end of the stick. Perhaps I took what you said too literally.

You said you wouldn't be going anywhere to go on the benefit after saying you would go home if you lost your job. What if there were no jobs to be had in Aus or here?

How is endless "what ifs" relevant to anything?

Sounds like the right move. Maybe then the government will pull finger and do something about things.

Agreed. My point is just that you're paying tax in Aus yet you aren't entitled to the benifits that tax is paying for. And on the flip side you're not paying tax in NZ but would be entitled to the DOL if you came back.

The problem is with the discrimintation of the Aussie government against Kiwis.

So they should pay us to come to their country, use their health care, their education, their infrastructure?

If you want the dole you can either stay at home or do what everyone else in the world has to do, apply to be a citizen and get in line.

Either way, if the dole is your plan, then you have a shit plan.

No, they should, however, give you the benifits you've paid for if you happen to need them. Just like everybody else that pays Aussie tax.

Agreed. The DOL is never a plan. More a shit happens, get off it ASAP backstop.

The DOL is just a contingency and, more importantly, an example of a benifit you should be entitled to if you're paying the same tax as a native.

I'm always interested in hearing about experiences people have had in countries I've been to and yet to go to.

I've met people who've had a crap time in some of the nicest places and fantastic times in crap places. Visiting is of course totally different to actually living in a country. However, IMHO it also depends on the type of person you are, how you react to situations, what you do for a job etc.

Ultimately though, there is no place like home.

Back in the mid-ninties when I done my first 5 year stint in Aussie I was in the habit of being a bit of a cunt at work and ended up changing jobs regularly, during one of the down times I went into the dole office and made a few enquirers, What I was entitled to at that time wouldn't have even covered the rent, and I was tied into a 12 month lease.

    oh how I laughed.

And even then there were public parks full of homeless Kiwis living off charity, boozing it up, being useless felching fucks.

Indeed. It's all academic for me anyway. As you were...
