It wasn't only the USA, for some years Japanese cars had speedos that read to a max 180kph.

If you remember waaay back to the late '80s all the ping-a-ling domestic super bikes had 180km speedos. Crazy idea, not sure what they had in mind.

Have had the speedo indicating around 200 but of course only in a situation in which no lepers or homeless children would be harmed.

I may also have been asleep at the time, so I can't prove anything, and neither can anyone else.

I'm sure my Ducati can go faster than that if it felt so inclined, as I know for a fact that it goes much faster when someone other than me is riding it.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

I go fast because it's fun, not because I enjoy slapping my e-dick ona keyboard, speedo or no speedo I am going to enjoy the sensations of riding a bike. OP: 220 on the MV? Weak bro did your vagina hold you back too much?

Got an Ariel 500 avec sidecar up to trotting speed once and it felt scary about to explode fast before it pulled me into a muddy bank. Didn't have the nerve to kickstart the f**ker again after being almost crippled by the first attempt.

My CBX 1000 put the fear of God at any speed whenever going into a lumpy corner with anything like luggage on the rear whereas my VFR doesn't seem to get upset at anything and feels reassuringly tame after that.

Fastest bike I had or what felt like the fastest bike was my little CB160 (top speed 70mph) way back in the 60's, a bike which rode like it just came off the IOM.

Haha DO you have a cop seating on your passenger seat so that you cant go more than 104 kph?

You should come down to Wellington when the Gladstone Hill climb quarter mile sprints are on and really test it out. It's a lot of fun, safe and actual recorded speeds, not these ambitious speedo numbers. My MV F3 topped out showing 282 (or somewhere about that) with a true 254kph. Puts an end to all those pub bragging tales.

March and Nov I think are the usual times for the sprints. cliffhanger.org.nz
Wow that'll be a cool and legal way to find out the max speed on a bike!

They must have seen you do that quite often hence the chicane..

Wow! but theres quite a difference between the speed on the speedo vs the actual speed.

Not bad for your Ninja 250.

So youre the one who is always holding up the traffic. Lol

But I have it on good authority of the following:

    Bikes:

    ZXR250c: 195kph indicated.
    K10 GSXR 750: 289kph indicated.
    K5 GSXR 600: 278kph indicated.
    2011 CBR1000rr: 292kph indicated.

    Cars:

    1996 200sx track modified: 257kph.

I wont comment on whether any of the above where at the track, on closed roads at legitimate events or "other".

And I have been told that my 2007 Audi RS4 if de-limited (255kph limiter) will touch 300kph on a long straight road. Not keen to try that one. Too expensive if things go pop.
I'm sure you go all of these records to show it to your Grand kids later on, Aye mate

Thats dead right mate, DO you happen to have a cruise control on your bike by any chance ? :P

I see thats pretty fast mate and good on ya for doing it on a close road ( causing no harm to others )

Traveling at high speed is a whole lot of fun, but time/place and all that. In any case, I much prefer a remote winding road for a bit of fun.
I respect what you say Brett and that the reason why I did it on a back country road with hardly any traffic and it was a straight road too so I had a clear vision of next few kms down the road

If youre refering to suburban street as a closed road/back country road with 0 traffic then I'm with ya if not a big NAYYYY from me..

This is no idle boast, it's just possible I will be able to obtain photographic evidence in support of this claim.
Of course it's also possible that the traffic that was temporarily obstructing my progress at the time may also be in the picture which will spoil it.
    I hope!
    I see!

Both are indicated, both really early Sunday mornings, both (looking back) really stupid and both many, many moons ago.
Thats not bad for a 87' gixer!

You should prolly try it out on a track or an open country road to see what your ride is capable ( without endangering anyone tho )

SO you dont give a tos about regular people I see. lol And I gather you got one of those friends who would like to beat the crap outta mate's bike. Thats typical mate therefore I always use- If drop it you buy it policy and theyre more cautious with the bike..HAha

It was the first time I achieved that speed on my bike and it was a straight road but it was merging into an open road after few kms so I just took it easy cos there's always a next time you know

Not quite... it never left the driveway. Something to do with a faulty speedo sensor. Other than that, I daren't go over 99 as I've been told that I'll die.
    I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
