I'm kinda keen to go up Fri eve so I can sleep in a little on Sat before the masses arrive. I don't sleep well at the best of times so a lie in is always welcome. Plus there's a jam sesh on at a local bar on the Fri, might go do some jamming

Those things are awesome! Anything with a lawnmower engine in it has to be good.

Oh well, will make the pass more interesting I'm sure. Hope there's no big rivers ... Wait, actually I do as I wanna test to see if my tube re-routing will work

As I'm planning to be in there for Friday night do those going in on Saturday have a plan or should we go hang out in the general area of the first hut if we are to hook up in the reserve on Saturday morning?
My old track log goes a bit further to the right than ADVGDs one on his site and there looks to be a lot of old huts to visit on my topo, not to say they all still exist or are usable.
I have not been up the left branch at all.

Flash and I are looking to leave CHCH about 1pm. Managed to get the day off work.

im not too sure - maybe decide on which branch on the saturday to take and bump into each other during the day. watch out for thepom tho cos he will actually bump into you. you guys will probably start riding when you wake and we have to get to kaikoura, fuel up and drop our bags off

from memory the first time i did it we ran out of time to do the left branch - they arent very long but took us ages. was thinking of taking one slowly on saturday and rushing the other then vice versa on sunday

Righto, must look a bit more in to fuel vs distance being I won't be gassing up between days, personally I'm expecting to muck about doing a lot of nothing much while in there, no hurry and play it by ear so well see ya when we see ya for however long works.
Wonder if I can fit my chair on the WR ok got a stool that might work.

So are you guys going up on the Fri, riding part of it then camping in there somewhere? I'll ride up with you on Fri but will hang out in Kaikoura and wait for the Sat crowd to arrive. I still don't have a decent sleeping bag, hence the Backpackers. Oh, and I'm lazy

    That's the general idea.
I'm going to need to grab a gas tank top up in Kaikoura (being the closest fuel stations) last thing before heading in.
