I would have expected that in 2013, but 30 years ago? Sheesh! Bad Karma...
Worst thing is, you still remember... Hope you catch the culprit next time you go there......

My wife and I left both helmets secured to the helmet lock on the CB400F. Mongrels opened the visor which was facing downwards and stole my gloves, stole my gloves as the song goes....yep got a long memory for bad shit and haha, yes I still looked for them the three times I've been back there but no luck so far

Usually if you ask nicely they have somewhere safe to park. Otherwise park it as close as possible to where you are sleeping so you'll hear if anyone tries anything silly .

Find a nice DOC campground away from it all.....Then all you have to listen for is the Kea as they strip your bike of rubber parts.....Therefore buy a really big tent and put the bike inside with you

I am a fan of having a roll of tape, cable ties, first aid kit and torch. You will never need them. It's the cheapest insurance I know. Wife and I will be touring down there too, on our GSX650f And XJR1300 at the same time. Tyres and wet weathers are good advise from previous posters Enjoy Oldman Rider

      Puncture repair kit

I always carry a $100 note tucked away in my wallet.

    Takes care of most situations.

I've got a cheap 12v tyre pump, I've rigged up a cigaret lighter plug for running accesories, I have a puncture repair kit "Stop & Go, Pocket Tyre Plugger", good for warding off the demons that chase the air to the tops of my tyres, This seems to be an easy to use road side puncture repair system.
I also carry a few cable tyes, a roll of elec tape, small torch, and a small first aid kit, because I might need first aid.

That looks alright, except..... Instead of going from Kerr bay straight to Arthurs Pass, hang a right at Inangahua junction and go to Westport then down the coast to Greymouth
Also... fill your tank in Greymouth, Arthurs pass is kinda spendy for gas
