Ever run out of gas mate?

I have a few times ... felt pretty stupid at the time (which I was)

It was your fault you ran out. Yet you abuse others doing their job to keep their business safe. (And profitable)

Their policy was not against you personally ... just their policy ... and based on law. And you try to make it personal ... and attempt a personal vendetta against them ... (Good luck with that)

I'm betting that the members that agreed with you in this thread would buy petrol there .. if that was their only convenient choice ...

Ive worked in service stations when I was a teen. I was always told quite clearly, that I personally, was not allowed to put gas into a container unless it was an approved container - but that the customer could do what they want, provided they pay for the gas.

Last week I had the experience of running out of gas 1km short of a petrol station.

No worries Pete said I'll just pop up and borrow a can, sweet we thought.

5 mins later he returned with no gas, apparently the operator, a lady in about her 60s wouldn't lend a can, sure he could buy one for $38 but what the hell would we do with it afterwards?
So he thought he'd buy a bottle of V, drink it and throw a bit of gas in as he was filling his bike.
The lady stood over him and wouldn't let him even squirt a bit in, saying "it is against the law etc".

So Pete returns with his bike full but no extra fuel.

Dan sez "give me a go" and he shot down to the station, filled his bike and tried to quickly throw a bit into the empty V bottle. But this lady was quickly on to him and wouldn't let him, short of having a scrap with the dragon he then returned with full bike but no fuel for me.

We them spent the rest of 45mins bailing cap fulls of gas from the top of both bikes tanks until I got enough to start the R1, by the way 2/3s of a 330ml bottle of V was required.

I, by then was pretty hot under the collar(some might say understandably) and roared of down to the station. Stuck 4l of gas in, paid the lady and then proceeded to give her a dose of verbal, calling her a "miserable old cunt" and "hoping that some mechanical misfortune occurred to her".
Her response was "you shouldn't run out of gas" as if this was done on purpose.????

FYI the station was 'Gasoline Alley in Matata'.

I then called in to the new BP just out of Te Puke and filled rest of tank up, the attendant at this station couldn't believe the previous stations attitude, saying it was against the law for them to fill unapproved containers but if someone filled their own they couldn't really stop it. Also they would lend a can with a deposit, to be filled on return, which is what I would have hoped for.

What do you guys think? Unreasonable or not?

I am surprised the old cunt even got off her fat arse and came out to the pump.
Last time I was in NZ fueling up ment parking by the pump, going inside to pre pay the curry muncher, going back outside to dispense the fuel, going back inside to get my change and receipt. Fuck all service left in Service Stations.

'Pump my fuel, monkey', then walk out and watch them. Then pay cash and tell them to bring the change and receipt out.

One mate actually took the pain to prepay 2$ by 2$. By eftpos. Then demanded the final 1.37(ish) to be refunded to the card rather than cash.

I wonder if the fuelling population actually has enough assholes to justify the fuelers policy.

ffs, people blame others for their fuckup then abuse said person for doing her job and covering her own arse as thats what is required these days under NZ health and safety laws, then because they are to damned stupid to know how to take a fuel pipe off the bottom of a tank to drain some fuel into a container they spend an hour bailing fuel with the cap off a V bottle, really quite comical when you think about it, as for abusing the woman at the servo, you must feel like a REAL man, did you leave her with two black eyes as well, no wonder people think motorcyclists are ass holes.
as for running out of fuel, yeah i did years ago in the middle of the kaimai's, another motorcyclist stopped and towed me in to get fuel, shit happens sometimes that is of our own making, don't blame others for your own fuckup

Next time do what the enduro riders do.

Carry a sturdy plastic bag under the seat. Drain some out of the mate's bike with fuel - from the tap into the bag - you don't even need a funnel to get it into yours if you is cleva.

We used to sell them a used can at full price ($25)but with 5 litres in it. I it came back we bought it back for the same price less the fuel. Most people put the difference in the tank. If they did not come back we would take another out of stock for the next person. We had to do it that way. Being Auckland about 30% didn't come back. Still made good money over wholesale cost if the can. ($7)

You obviously don't ride a sports bike, ie no fuel tap and major fairings to take off to get anywhere near fuel pump.

Try doing that at the side of the road esp when you know there is a station just around the corner and all that was needed was a squirt of gas either into a container or a loan can with deposit.

I knew my range and had intended to stop at whakatane but mate took bypass and said that there was a station 11k up the road on his gps, 30k later.....

I have no regrets with my dealings with old bag, service station w/o any service.

I can't recall if an FJ1200 is still regarded as a sports bike ... but plenty of overflow hoses easily accessible ...

And I have done that on the side of the road ... if the distance to the servo is short ... less fuel needs transferred ...
