Best way to get to Tauranga from Auckland?

    Afternoon team,
Im meant to be joining my GF in tauranga for Waitangi day. will be leaving Wednesday night.
Now I was thinking just going down state highway 2 but can imagine it'll be quite boring sitting at 10,000 rpm for 2.5 hours.
I dont mind if it takes abit longer but what's a more fun way to ride down.
Haven't been on a decent ride since I got back into riding so will be good for the experience.
Also what do you think about headphones and riding?

Any insight will be greatly appreciated

This is the abbreviated short route ...

For the recommended full route ... you need a South Island road map ...

You have a piece of skirt in Tauranga and your only doing 10000rpm all the way there.
Used to have a FZR250, quite happy at 13500 rpm all the way to palmy, oil consumption may increase

Headphones and riding, already discussed in other threads.

I assume by best, you don't want the fastest, as SH2 or similar is pretty much it. This is what I've used a few times: http://goo.gl/maps/R3cWd

Go to matamata then over the Kaimais, mainly straight roads. Don't take the Katikati/Waihi route. You will get stuck behind some slow cunt in the gorge and there isn't alot of passing room.

I've done the Matamata route in less than 2 hours before but it was going on sunset and I was farken boosting

    Cheers,
Nah misses is down there helping her sister who is due 2 days ago. So was going to meet them down there.

Was just going to use headphones for map directions really. as music will probably be distracting.

Thanks for the different routes mentioned

    Here's my personal favourite.

Edit: Here's an even better route if you have the time.

In my opinion its not distracting. I always play music when im going further than down the road. It will help break the journey up

im the same, even back in the eighties i used to have the walkman playing in speakers i mounted in the helmet, best bet is try it, if you don't like it then stop and turn em off, not hard really, thats my 2 cents worth and at the end of the day its only my opinion that really matters

I wasn't aware a map had a fun to ride a motorcycle scale on it. Hence why I asked. My mistake I will go back to keeping to myself. As you were
