Smile Bullion MC (Nelson Cycletreads) and Forbes and Davies recommendation

Had an issue with a Metzler Z8 bought at City MC (now called Pacific MC Co) a Nelson shop now closing its service dept anyway. When contacted they weren't interested.

Contacted Trevor Eves at importer Forbes and Davies who were great. Identified I had wrong tyre on (it is a single compound Z8 meant for some bikes but not the dual compound I paid for).

Bullion MC (Nelson Cycletreads) worked with them and they have done me a great deal on a replacement Z8 of the right spec at a price better than I thought I deserved for the miles it had done.

So well done Forbes and Davies and Bullion, know where I will get my tyres in future!

Good old fashioned service and back up deserves word of keyboard.
Stuff everything...I've always got my bike.

Will be interesting to see how long that place stays open ... Pacific co.

Very specific market, and as you say - not interested in dealing with the general biking public.

Cycle treads Nelson tho, Clive is good to deal with.

    Yes I was very impressed.

And you know, assuming the new tyre lasts well enough I will buy another based on this service, and at the rate rears run out on modern bikes that's good money every year.

Hanng on a minute - what's the full story?
What issue did you have with the tyre?

Clive is great to work with I agree.

Issue was that at 8300km it really suddenly showed metal right round centre of tyre tread. Never had a tyre do that before and I understood I was getting a dual compound well lasting tyre.
No burnouts, gentle throttle, no long straights or commutes, Sunday Ulysses rider.
I know tyre life varies hugely by rider, but this was less miles than usual and the wear was extreme.
I specifically wanted a dual compound sport touring tyre and shop knew that, but gave me a single compound version.
Not a biggie, I was not shouting and would have been happy with a small offer, and if told it is not importers problem frankly would have accepted that. So when they came though with A really good offer, after Clive talked to them, I was delighted and felt it worth saying so.

Crikey, hope you've bought yourself a tread depth gauge since...

Frick me. I didn't know tyres actually lasted over 3-4000 kms???

No offense intended but you took a tyre back with 8300Kms on it? I honestly can't believe you did that. You got a bloody good result tho.

Macleans/city/Pacific m/cs always have been good to deal with for me.

+1 , they certainly seem ready to go the extra mile, managed to get $800 plus out of me for a new helmet after lending me gear and a bike to try it out first, not many shops will let you test a helmet before buying, and i had only gone in to kill some time but to be fair i was in the market for a new lid.
that reminds me, i must go have a talk to the local supplier about the advice i was given by one of their staff about just buying a larger helmet when what i required was smaller cheek pads which were interchangeable on the helmet i purchased, that bit of advice lost them a sale

I had reasonably regularly gone there for tyres, wofs and mechanical work until Lester/Jason sold the business. After that had browsed the stock a few times and had a couple of punctures fixed. The overall impression I got was they were interested in a very narrow part of the market but those customers in that market also have other bikes to service and buy for. May work but I didn't get a feeling of a runaway success in the making. A number of similar shops have come and gone throughout the country.

I got 18,000 out of one set of my Z8's, got 13,000 out of another set but the back got 4 punctures so had to be replaced.

    They are awesome tyres.
