    New domains

Had a look at the new domain extensions and what is coming? Will be interesting I reckon. Some people can't get their head around the 'old different' ones .co and .biz eg.
There are heaps like .bike and .blog and hundreds of others on the way. Might be useful for some. Might just confuse others.

    I've got

    Just a sample:

    .bike
    .camera
    .clothing
    .construction
    .contractors
    .directory
    .equipment
    .estate
    .gallery
    .graphics
    .guru
    .holdings
    .kitchen
    .land
    .lighting
    .photography
    .plumbing
    .singles
    .technology
    .today
    .ventures

Bit of a nightmare for those protecting anything, last I saw, a .kiwi was bloody expensive (could be pre-registration or something). It does have some interesting chances, like cool.photography... but otherwise just makes my head hurt.

The ones that are available now are about $30 - depending on the seller.

'Pre-registrations' are up to $2k or more.

It's a bit overkill in my mind having all those options and it's going to cause all sorts of confusion, but meh, we'll get used to it.

I bought a .kiwi address. Was 300 bucks but I think that is for 5 years, or maybe 3, can't remember.
There is one more I'm after as well but some yank company has first dibs.

Kiwi is one of the most memorable words in the English language (apparently) otherwise I wouldn't bother and I don't think I will grab any of the other new ones.

That's what I figured. Does a company now have to buy (theirname).(all domains combinations) to make sure nobody squats on them or "steals" their I.P.?

And if not, then that implies the first part of the domain name is unique enough, so why have all the new stuff?

Already bad enough. I've been reading "scienceforums.net" lately, but there also was a "scienceforums.org" and something else. Next there'll be a "scienceforums.kiwi" and I'll never know where the hell I'm going.

I do think some ideas were good. Like "xxx" for pron. But unless they can make all pron use that (so people (e.g. parents) can easily block if they want to) there's no point. And the internet is still anarchy.

For that matter, when I registered my own companies domain, I found that there was a ".com" with my name. (There wasn't one a few years previously when I'd first looked). Bugger. So I registered the ".co.nz" version for myself anyway. I am the problem.

It would remind me too much of how Queenslanders spell their rather unpalatable beer.

I've got .co and .com.au pointing at my bike site now.
Gave .co.nz to the other DC over there.
