Sure you're thinking of the right Porsche?

Changing the hubs and rims would be cheaper than that so I think you might have the wrong end of the stick on that bit of info...

Those Hiluxes and Safaris are horribly overpriced, gutless, thirsty and unreliable death traps. The Europeans were investing huge amounts of money in R&D just when the Japanese were going through a recession in the 1990s. The petrol versions are going to be thirsty, and the diesels are so many years behind the Europeans it's just not funny. It's just a matter of the sheep believing the same old wive's tales that the Japanese used car dealers keep repeating in order to sell more overpriced crap that the rest of the first world doesn't want.

I was looking at replacing our older Terrano recently (Yeah .. but I need something to tow the boat and I used to live in the snow country and sometimes a 4X4 was the only way in and out ...)

I would buy a Mitsi ASX .... They are small, the have the least complicated driver's layout .. Mitsi give a 10-year warranty .. they are nice to drive .. they will do some towing ..

I just like them .. for something with four wheels that is ..

The europeans should have invested more in making their vehicles more reliable and less complicated.

Most of them are pretty reliable. It's just that the dumb fucks who own them think that they know more about how to maintain a vehicle than the manufacturer does, then they complain when they're left with an eye-wateringly high repair bill after years of neglect. After all, IIRC, VAG is the world's second largest vehicle manufacturer so they do know what they're doing. Toyota certainly isn't without their flaws either, since they have also had a large number of vehicle recalls in recent years. Even the modern "simple" cars like a Corolla still have a very complex electrical system that is beyond the capabilities of an average backyard mechanic with simple hand tools.

There is really no choice, Suzuki, we have owned one since 96 and it has been the most reilyable car I have ever had any experience with.

Other than the very basic maintenance costs it has cost nothing to own. It is fine to drive sure its no racing car. Its very light on fuel, and it is a propper 4wd with low ratio. I would also tow a medium size trailer with mine just fine.

Keep away from diesels, the technology for common rail motors is not right yet.

Saying that I am still a landrover fan. I would not be without my V8.

Wont argue with you there, but rather have a corolla that a tourag, Q7 or Porshe or Merc, no matter how well maintained. Those Vag suv platforms set new standards in unreliability.

My mate had one of those Suzukis and it was one of the most horrible vehicles I've ever been in. I would want to kill myself if I had to drive one on a regular basis. Now it was pretty good offroad and could easily embarass well kitted out SUVs worth 5 times as much money, but that's where the good points end. Even when driven gently it would drink much more fuel than my mates VT 3.8L Commodore. It was so gutless that holding up traffic around town when pulling away from intersections was the norm. It was pretty high maintenance too. It felt like a tinny death trap, and it was. I actually feel much safer on a motorbike than I do in one of those horrid things.

The technology for common rail diesels has been good for many years in the European vehicles, just not in Japanese engines. It's quite common for commercial VAG and Fiat diesels to go for many hundreds of thousands of kms with nothing more than basic maintenance. Why do you think that Suzuki uses a Fiat diesel on their Vitara? Toyota has even realised that they can't build a good diesel engine to compete with the European models in terms of reliability, fuel efficiency and refinement, so the latest European Hiace is actually a rebadged PSA vehicle. We won't be getting that here though, we're stuck with the shitty model we have now. It's actually quite a good business strategy; keep building the same old, overpriced rubbish with very little money spent on R&D, and laugh all the way to the bank as the sheeple continue to pay ridiculous amounts of money for what is actually an old, inefficient vehicle underneath a modern looking shell.

Much as I currently love my Suzuki bikes that experience put me off Suzuki 4X4s for ever ..
