What are the redeeming qualities of Tauranga? Or the deal-breakers?

So I've got a Tauranga-based outfit looking to poach me away from where I've been stuck in Auckland. Despite being a little rouch at the moment, they seem pretty serious about turning into a competent and serious contender in the industry, which is promising.

However it does mean moving to Tauranga. Or more accurately, convincing my partner to move to Tauranga with me.

To me, Tauranga/The Mount seems to have a number of upsides - sunnier than Auckland, only 2/3 as many hours in the work week, no traffic to speak of. Possibly most importantly of all, the "rush" to have absolutely everything done by yesterday isn't there.

Downsides are leaving behind work opportunities for my partner, and her family is in Auckland. And rents don't seem to be hugely cheaper than Auckland options.

Long story short, what other redeeming qualities does Tauranga have that I could use to "sell" it to my partner? And is there anything anyone might suggest to watch out for - IE avoid moving into certain areas [Welcome Bay?]?

    Much appreciated.

    Nodrog lives there

There's beaches with waves, people speak predominantly English and it's a great launch place for a hoon around east cape.

The fish & chip shop down the waterfront in TGA is pretty good, the Kaimais are right on Taurangas back doorstep and it's not Auckland. Assuming the new firm will pay all relocation costs, what the fuck are you waiting for?

Hearing out another offer too, but suspect it won't be a contender [though would be happy to be surprised]. I haven't seen many Asians in the area when I've been down, there isn't any particular anti-Asian sentiment is there? My partner being NZ-born of Chinese heritage.

Auckland surely leads the North Island stakes in anti-Asian sentiment, well ahead of any other N.I city I visit. Talk to Nodrog, he knows all about Towel-Wronger. Hell, I never knew they had coconuts down there until Gordy enlightened us all just recently (they have three apparently).

I hate to disturb your ignorance and add fuel to your racist fire - but essentially you are wrong

The Maori population of Tauranga is 16.6% while the Maori population of Auckland is 11.1%. (Auckland might just have numerically more, but we are more obvious in Tauranga).

Coffees in Auckland are shit for some reason. I've only had the occasional good one when I've been up that way and friends who live up there have found the same thing. Coffee anywhere but Auckland just seems to be brewed better.
