In other news, Darwin's evolution theory

    ........is proven once again.

A cyclist in Christchurch, failing to acknowledge that red flashing lights and barriers at a rail crossing might mean something, rode his bike into the path of a train on Tuesday afternoon.

If people can't see TRAINSwith bells and whistles how can we expect them to spot a motorcycle?

This would be a better story if he was riding three abreast with two friends and ranting about his rights as a road user too...

The cyclist couldn't possibly be expected to see the train, it wasn't wearing hi viz.

Maybe just barriers you cannot ride around would do the trick?

Here is a revolutionary idea. Snipers. If you shoot anyone who ignores the giant red lights and the loud bells. If you shoot them dead they can't get killed by the train. Instant improvement in stats.

    Sprung !!!

    Update.

I got sprung by a KB member yesterday morning. I took one of the Neighborhood Policing Team bicycles out on a morning peak patrol. In fact, I've done it a few times in the last fortnight. When my guys are using the patrol bikes, I usually use a car, but I've taken the cycle out a few times now and I'm enjoying it.

I can approach drivers in the midst of cellphone conversations, ride up to folk not wearing seatbelts, and bust cyclists who blow traffic lights.

I was watching one such intersection when a van pulled over nearby and the driver called out to me "Is that you Rastus?"

    SPRUNG !!!
